Facebook link and like errors

Hi there, two social media related errors on latest update of WP, EE 3, website holisticlivingschool.org:

1- The Facebook like option at the top of EE pages isn’t unique for each event. I.e. http://www.holisticlivingschool.org/classes/event-listing/?ee=233 and http://www.holisticlivingschool.org/classes/event-listing/?ee=358 are two separate event entries but are showing the same “like” info (and I know it isn’t just randomly the same number of likes, because one post has been up for months, and the other was just posted yesterday and automatically came up with the large # of likes)

2- When pasting an Event Espresso link to an event into Facebook, either for a personal post or for the post on a page, the event pulls Title and descriptive text from other events. Cannot find a rhythm to this, seems to be very random; never accurate.

Sorry if this is already posted in the forums; could not find either error referenced. Thank you for your help.

Hi,

1) Due to the way EE3 was coded, events are dynamic. As such Facebook likes etc will revert to the event list page not the individual events. EE4 resolves this by using Custom Post Types.

2) Not seen this before, but it is likely related to the first issue: the events are dynamically created.

Barring moving to EE4 (which if your business needs allow it, we do recommend), you could create a post for the events, which because they are posts, will allow Facebook an easier time in tracking.

Interesting; but the challenge is I don’t want every event on my blog feed – that’s what my EE section for registration is for. I guess I’ll have to play with tags to see how this could work.

As for migration, we do use EE4 on another site, and we would be happy to move this site to EE4 when the full functionality of EE3 (especially discount codes, multiple event registration in single cart, etc) comes alive.

Thank you!

Hi Emily, we are working on those add-ons for Event Espresso 4. The promotions system will be available as an add-on before the Multiple Event Registration add-on is released.

For now, I would create posts for select events instead of all of them. This information would then become static since it is a blog post and would appear correctly when shared via Facebook.
