Events not displaying correctly on Facebook since last update

When creating a new post on Facebook business page, it use to work correctly where it would pull the event title and the featured image. But ever since the last EE update it’s not pulling the info correctly.

To replicate, you can post any event to facebook like you were going to publish a post on Facebook page.

When you insert the text followed by the event URL you will see Facebook say “Fetching Preview”.

Then the strange part is this, while creating the post, after Facebook is done “fetching preview” you will see that the “Event Title” and the “Event Featured Image” are all pulled correctly for the preview of the Facebook draft post.

BUT, once you click “Publish”, the Facebook post of the Event you were trying to post on Facebook page renders incorrectly.

Here is a screenshot of what it looks like “AFTER PUBLISHING” (i erased personal info).

In the past, after clicking “PUBLISH” the Facebook post would look great. It would have the Featured Image and the EVENT TITLE all pulled in from the Event URL from our website.

But the last few weeks since last update it’s not working correctly.

I’ve already chatted with Facebook support and they said it’s not on their end.

I also did a test from another website that I operate that doesn’t use Event Espresso and the posts are being rendered correctly by pulling in the Title and the Featured image.

Can you please have the developers look into this.

It is making it impossible for us to share URL event on Facebook becuase it looks terrible now. The only option we have currently is to post the URL of an actual page with many events on it, but in the past few years we always like to post the individual events.

The workaround for now is that we have to share “Facebook Events” that we create. But that’s not as good either becuase it doesn’t allow them to go directly to our website by clicking the “Facebook post” becuase a Facebook event makes you click “Interested” and then open the event on FB then find the tickets URL>

So we really need the Event Espresso to communicate with Facebook correctly again.

Hi Jarred,

When you set up the earlier events, the ones that did display the correct information on Facebook, did you input a short description into the Excerpt field?

Hi Josh,
Yes, have always placed a description in the excerpt field. But for the last 6 months at least, that hasn’t mattered because Facebook would only pull the title and featured image and it all looked good. But now, only the fetched preview when creating look correct with the featured image and title. BUT, when I click “PUBLISH” I am left with what you see in the screenshot.

Can you give an example of a specific URL that you’re sharing on Facebook, and does the template for that page have any customizations that have been added recently?

Well Josh, I just tested again before sending a link and it’s working fine now. As of yesterday it wasn’t working and this morning it is. So who knows. I will keep this ticket open for the rest of the week just to make sure it continues to work as it should. Thanks

If the issue begins happening again this week you should probably contact Facebook because that would suggest something is changing from their end.
