Women of Scotland Lunch

Hi, I hope you can help.

I have enabled a yearly event by duplicating the previous year’s event and updating the date info and ticket prices. Unfortunately, the URL is using both year descriptions in it, ie, http://www.companyname.com/eventname2023/eventname2024

When I try to edit the URL only the 2024 part is editable, this part – http://www.companyname.com/eventname2023/ is greyed out and can’t be changed.

Can you tell me what I’ve done wrong?

Thanks.

Were you able to check if there’s existing plugin conflict? I test it on my end and i can change the permalink.

Can you loom a video for us? you can use this. https://loom.com/

also, here’s how you check the plugin conflict.
You can use https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/ or any similar plugin.

You can do the above using Troubleshooting mode:

Tools -> Site Health -> Troubleshooting -> Enabled Troubleshooting mode.

That will disable all plugins and switch to a default theme and then allow you to enable specific plugins troubleshooting mode. Once disabled you will revert back to the current state.

thanks

It seems you did change your Event slug to “events-women-of-scotland-lunch-2023”, You can change that slug by going to EE Dashboard -> Events-> Template -> Event Slug.

Hi there,

What I think you have done is set up EE’s event slug to be (in your public example) ‘eventname2023’.

That means that going to:

http://www.companyname.com/eventname2023/

Lists out all of your events and going to:

http://www.companyname.com/eventname2023/{event-slug}

Goes to each individual event.

In short, using the year within the events slug is ‘doing it wrong’ and causing you to run into this problem. I recommend using a more general events slug, in your example something like this works better:

http://www.companyname.com/eventname/eventname2024

Because each year eventname2024 can change but the rest of the URL remains the same.

Go to Event Espresso -> Events -> Templates (a tab above the event list table)

In that section find the ‘Event Slug’ option.

Right now yours is set to something like eventname2023

Remove the year from that section and save.

You may also need to flush permalinks after doing this, do that in Dashboard -> Settings -> Permalinks (don’t change anything just hit save).

Now edit your event again and view the URL it shows, does it work better now?
