Event Espresso running on a non "event" page

on a page in my site, i’m seeing a slowdown in new relic due to Event Espresso.

Is there a way to prevent it from running on certain pages?

This was the single.php page, but events are never shown on this page of my site. Events are their own pages.

Do you have the actual URL of where the slowdown occurred? The reason I ask is because Event Espresso events actually use the single.php template from the WordPress theme.
