Event Espresso 4: Manual Event Registration Won't Let Me Complete

We recently moved a client from EE3 to EE4 because registered users occasionally and bizarrely were disappearing (8 out of close to 600 registrations). We tried multiple fixes and decided this move may be a good thing.

And for the most part it has. It seems to work better.

The one thing my client can’t do is consistently manually register people. And they do this multiple times a day when people, say, buy a block of group tickets or something.

1) When logged into the backend, we go to the event we want to register people for.
2) Clicking on registrations, the new registration button is on top of the page.
3) Clicking that, we select our ticket types then go to the next screen to fill in the information (By the way, with front end registration, we can use the same contact details for everyone in the party, can the same happen on the backend because entering ten sets of data for ten people is a bit annoying. Workable but annoying.)
4) Then we try to proceed to payment… and get booted back to select tickets.

This doesn’t happen consistently- I have gotten to the payment screen, but as you can imagine, it’s quite annoying. Help!

Hi Nicole, are you trying to complete a mix of registrations from the front-end and the backend (e.g. manual registrations in the WP dashboard)?

Could you try clearing your session between those attempts by browsing to the registration cancelled link on your site?

The URL will appear similar to this (substitute in your URL):

example.com/registration-cancelled/

Hi Lorenzo,

This is in the backend (WP dashboard).

So I just went to divered.com/registration-cancelled then tried again.

From this page (where I was entering my personal information after selecting tickets): http://divered.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=espresso_registrations&action=new_registration&processing_registration=1&event_id=1703&_wpnonce=780b5b45bc&new_registration_nonce=780b5b45bc&return=process_reg_step

I clicked the continue button… and got booted right back to the ticket selection area.

Thanks for clarifying Nicole.

Are you on the latest version of Event Espresso 4?

Hi Lorenzo,

I just upgraded it and now it’s letting me… but this has been intermittently happening for 3 days (since we moved EE4 live). So I really do want to say thanks but I also want to say, when will this happen again?

And also is there a way to use one registrants details for ALL the tickets?

Ok so now it’s not working again. (The manual registration)

OK more info: it won’t let me do it for more than one ticket at a time. Is this possible (manually register a couple tickets at a time)?

Hi Nicole,

Yes you can add multiple registration through the admin.

When it kicks you back to the beginning, does it show anything on the screen at all? ‘First Name required’ for example?

Are you opening multiple tabs for the registrations? As in clicking ‘Add new registration’ to open it in another tab.

No it just acts like it’ll work then kicks me back. No error message, no redirect to a weird link.

It also opens in the same tab when I click ‘Add New Registration’.

It also opens in the same tab when I click ‘Add New Registration’.

That’s expected.

I wanted to check you wern’t opening that page multiple times in new tabs and adding attendees within each tab, that will cause problems with the registrations.

With the registrations jumping back to the start with no warning I’m wondering if some security rule is being triggered. Can you check with your host to see if something within those registrations is triggering some form of mod_security rule they have in place please?

Web host turned off all modsecurity rules. I cleared by cache and tried this again. Still doesn’t work.

Hi, I ran some additional testing yesterday and found that it sometimes worked and other times it did not. Could you follow up with your web host again and ask them to double-check the caching and mod security?

Also, do you have another testing site available on this host that you can test on?

My server did an Apache dump and turned off all modrewrite and I still can’t add multiple tickets at the same time. Moving copy of website to another host now.

Do you have a web host you recommend? I’ll put it there…
