Error: Cannot load events.

I am currently using WordPress 3.5.1 and my Event Espresso module is not working. The error is

> Cannot load events.

From what I read, this is a bug that was fixed at a later version than the one I am running. However, having had no need to upgrade or update till now I appear to have missed this bug fix while my support was active.

Getting to post or address ANY service request to the development team appears to be a challenge – the focus appears to be mainly on receiving payments and sales…

I would be most grateful if someone can assist in resolving this issue.

As one can guess, I need to upload a new event and am unable to do so – this impacts my business directly and any help will be most appreciated!

Hi —

If you are getting this with the Lite plugin it means you need to upgrade the lite plugin. If you are getting this with the premium plugin it means you need to upgrade the premium plugin. This is an issue that was fixed over a year ago, so if you are getting that message it means you are using an outdated version of the plugin.

Thank you, Chris.

Indeed, I had not upgraded neither WordPress nor any of the add-ons or plugins I was using – “if it is not broken, don’t fix it“, right?

I now find myself unable to use Event Espresso. I can also not access the link to my invoice to confirm what exactly I purchased.

Anyway – what I need to know is how I can obtain the fix? It is not available as a link anywhere from my account.

Hi Michael,

You can download the latest version of the paid version of Event Espresso if you have an up to date support license. You’ll find a green button with the word “Renew” on it under “Account Settings” on your account page.

The specific issue that you are seeing was a result from a core WordPress change in WP version 3.3 that we had to adapt Event Espresso to. So when you updated WP to the latest version, Event Espresso needed to be updated too.

Please confirm: unless I pay for a new support license I cannot get the fix.
(even though I am entitled to it as it was issued while I still had an active support license!)

Fixes to bugs (not new features or versions) should be free – as they are in virtually all other products I know of.

Hi Michael,

The same fix is available in the lite version that can be downloaded from WordPress.org.

I paid for my version – so I guess it is not the lite one. And I guess from the answer that the fix is NOT available to customers who only pay once.

You can download the latest version of the lite version, and use it’s files to replace the corresponding files in your version. You’ll probably want to make a backup of your current files beforehand.

OK.

My previous version – event-espresso.3.0.19.P.41.zip
Current lite version – event-espresso-free.3.1.30.7L.zip

No idea which files need replacing. Any pointers?

What files from the LITE version need I replace in my version before reloading it in order to resolve the bug?

Hi Michael,

There is a big change in the codebase from 3.0.x to 3.1.x I don’t think it would work to swap entire files between the two versions, they are very different.

That said, here are the files:

/includes/admin-files/event-management/edit_event_post.php
/includes/admin-files/event-management/new_event_post.php
/includes/event-management/insert_event.php
/includes/event-management/update_event.php

It might help to do a file comparison between the 3.1.13L and 3.1.15.L versions to find the changes made between the two because it was in 3.1.15 that was the point where Event Espresso was updated to be compatible with WordPress 3.3.
