Hi, we are encountering an error during event registration which says:
An error has occurred:
A valid transaction could not be initiated for processing your registrations.
EE_SPCO_Reg_Step_Attendee_Information – process_reg_step – 600

Can you please advise where to start looking? We have not had any updates recently. Thanks.

Hi Karen,

If you enable WP_DEBUG do you see any errors?

Can you please link me to one of your events so I can run a test?

Hi Tony,

Here’s the link to one of the events.

http://www.professionalwomenslunches.com/events/brisbane-visibility-event-2015/

I’ll find a good time to turn on WP_DEBUG to test soon. Will update.

Thanks,
Karen

Hi Karen,

Within your Personal Information or Dietary Information question groups, do you have checkbox questions assigned?

You can check within Event Espresso -> Registration Form -> Question Groups.

Edit the question groups and see what questions are included in the group (they will have a checkbox and be listed at the top)

Hi Tony,

The questions are all text fields, no checkboxes. I’ve turned on WP_DEBUG and tried to register. The same popup error message. Where can I find the debug results? I don’t see anything else on the screen.

Thanks,
Karen

I get an error once I have input details into the event and click to proceed to payment options, the page refreshes and this error is shown:

Warning: in_array() expects parameter 2 to be array, string given in /event-espresso-core-reg/core/libraries/form_sections/strategies/display/EE_Checkbox_Display_Strategy.strategy.php on line 42

Do you have any caching plugins installed or has you host recently enabled server side caching?

I noticed you using 4.7.9.p, is there a reason you have not updated to the latest version? Currently that is 4.8.13.p

Have you modified EE at all?

KarenC

September 30, 2015 at 6:26 am

We have not modified EE at all. There’s no change in the WordPress installation and the plugins for a while and it has been working quite well and stable for some time. Definitely no caching plugins. How to check if the host has recently enabled server side caching?

We just haven’t updated EE because it has been working well. So it’s strange that it’s suddenly throwing up this error.

Hello, you could follow up with your web host to see if they have recently enabled any caching services?

Could you let us know who your hosting provide is?

Lorenzo

Hi Lorenzo, our web hosting provider is

I am checking with them now regarding the caching services.

KarenC

September 30, 2015 at 5:26 pm

Hi again Lorenzo, the web hosting provider has not had any changes recently. Is there anything else they can check on their side?

KarenC

September 30, 2015 at 5:30 pm

Oops I’ve just noticed the link to the web hosting provider didn’t turn up in my reply earlier. Trying again here…

KarenC

It didn’t work either! Will just paste the URL here

Hi Lorenzo, I’ve discovered that it could be related to ReCaptcha on the registration form. I’ve turned off that option and it appears to go thru to the next step. I’ve left it off for you to try so please let me know what your results are. Thanks.

The results look good from our end!

If you want to try reactivating reCaptcha, it may help to remove the photo album plugin’s scripts from the registration page. They’re likely not needed on that page, and they may be causing a conflict.

KarenC

Thanks for confirming, Josh. We definitely would like to reactivate reCaptcha but there needs to be something fixed before we do as I’ve tried it on again and the error comes back.

Can you please advise how to remove the photo album plugin scripts from the registration page? I don’t think I’ve added them there so they must be automatically included somehow.

Although I do think that it has something to do with changes in reCaptcha because everything else have been working well so far and I have not updated them for some time before this error. How can we check?

Hi Karen,

We would usually advise updating to the latest version of Event Espresso (and also WordPress) to keep up to date with all of the latest changes. The same also applies to WordPress as your site is also currently running an outdated version.

I can’t say for sure that updating will fix the problem, however we will then know you have all of the latest bug fixes for Event Espresso and have a level playing field to start debugging this.

However it is advisable to do this on a development copy of the site first to ensure there are no issues with your active plugins on the site. Event Espresso is compatible with the latest version of WordPress but we can’t test all variations of plugins and themes so sometimes conflicts can happen.

Do you have a development copy of the site?

KarenC

Hi Tony, that’s good advice. I’m cloning the site currently to create the development copy. And then will try to do the updates. Just wondering, how should I handle the licence to update Event Espresso on the development site?

On your development site simply remove the key from Event Espresso -> General Settings.

Then on that site you’ll need to update EE manually, we have a guide here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/updating-event-espresso/#update_manually

But its basically download the latest version from your account page, de-activate and delete the current version, upload the latest version and activate.

Let us know if you have any problems.

Hi Tony, the development copy of the site is now ready and updated. It is a clone of the main site, except that I’ve updated WordPress and the plugins. I’ve just tested with reCaptcha option on, and the error is still happening. What should I check next?

Here’s the URL to the development site event listing where you can try to register for the event.

Hmm, strange.

I can’t see any issues on the page. Is WPDEBUG enabled on the dev site?

The next step is a full troubleshoot, first switch to a default theme and re-test. Same error?

Then disable all non-EE plugins and retest, does it work now?

Obviously you’ll want to do this on the dev site, not live 🙂

Hi Tony, sorry forgot to turn on wpdebug on the dev site. It is now turned on. And when I went to test the event registration, I’ve now got a whole heap of notices and warnings even before I reach the form to submit the details. Please have a go again to see. Thanks.

This error:

Notice: The called constructor method for WP_Widget is deprecated since version 4.3.0! Use
__construct()

Basically means that either one (or more) of your plugins (or possibly the theme) is creating widgets incorrectly, you can find more information on this HERE. We can’t provide more specific info on on which because the error doesn’t point to anything in particular.

These errors:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /wp-includes/functions.php:3457) in /wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/core/EE_Front_Controller.core.php on line 112

Warning: session_start(): Cannot send session cache limiter – headers already sent (output started at /wp-includes/functions.php:3457) in /wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/core/EE_Session.core.php on line 398

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /wp-includes/functions.php:3457) in /wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 1207

Are being thrown by Event Espresso but are very likely caused by the previous notices above. ‘headers already sent’ means ‘something’ has been sent to the browser already, the notices above for the Widget calls aren’t expected and will be sent before the session is created and so throws this error.

Try running through the troubleshooting step above on the Dev site, switch to a default theme and retest.

De-activate all Non-EE plugins and retest. Its odd because everything looks correct but still fails. Can you confirm your recaptcha keys are correct and saved within Event Espresso -> Registration form -> Reg Form Settings.

Hello Karen, we have a couple reports of this issue. However, myself and other team members have not been able to duplicate the issue.

It would be helpful to have access to a temporary staging site so we can debug. Would you be able to provide one? If so, please follow up here with a temporary WP dashboard login and a temporary SFTP / FTP login for the staging site:

https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

The above option is preferred as we’ll be able to add some debugging code to track the source of the issue. However, if that is not available, then a copy of your theme as a zip file would be helpful and you can email it here:

support at eventespresso.com

If you email the theme in, please do add a short note so we know what the file is for.

Thanks for your help in troubleshooting!

Lorenzo

Hi Lorenzo, I would like to assist however, after doing all the above and turning on debug, the site just doesn’t work anymore. Are you ok with debug turned off? Otherwise, I need to restore the development copy to the same as what we have on the live site. That version still worked with the debug on.

So please let me know if debug off is ok for you to work with.

Cheers,
Karen

Hi Karen, we don’t want to make any changes to the live site at this time as we are still unsure what is causing this. If a staging site / testing site is available then that would be preferred.

If not, then a copy of the theme would be helpful.

We have two other members that reported this but so far we have not been able to duplicate the issue.

Thanks again!

Lorenzo

Hi Lorenzo, I don’t mean for you to work on the live site. What I meant was that the development site has been updated to the latest versions and it now doesn’t work with debug on. Just confirming whether you need to have debug on or off. If debug off is ok, then I can go ahead and provide access to the development site.

Cheers,
Karen

Hi Karen,

We can take a look at the development site in its current state. Thank you
