Email sent to registrant should include event information in iCal format

I searched for this topic, but the closest I could find was this: https://eventespresso.com/topic/ics-ee4/

If this hasn’t already been implemented, I would like to make an enhancement request for EE 4 Core:

1. Upon an approved registration, the email sent to the registrant must include iCAL event details which can be automatically recognized and added to the registrant’s email calendar.

2. It is not sufficient to just send a link to the web site. The email must have the correct MIME multipart type in the header so that it is recognized and processed correctly by Gmail, Outlook, Mac Mail, etc.

3. The event information (Content-Type: text/calendar) must contain, at the minimum:
a. Event title
b. Event starting time and duration
c. Event location
The Description field must contain:
d. Hyperlink to the event
e. The first 500 characters of the event text (or as much as will reasonably fit into the Description).

I found this useful link on how to send MIME multipart emails using PHP:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14277002/php-send-ical-using-php-mailer

Benefits of implementing this feature:
1) Leverage existing technology in webmail, thick clients and smartphones to process calendar information smoothly.
2) Reduce time spent on reminding registrants about their events.
3) Reduce the number of no shows.
4) Reduce the likelihood that registrants will make mistakes about the event time, location and other details.

I can volunteer to help beta test this feature. Thank you in advance!

Hello again Kevin,

I wanted to let you know that this is now available in the current version of Event Espresso 4.

Important: Please backup your WordPress (https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-back-up-your-site/) before making any changes and updating Event Espresso 4.

You can see the changelog for Event Espresso 4 here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/ee4-changelog/

Here is how to find it after updating to the latest version of Event Espresso 4:

Login to your WordPress dashboard and go to Event Espresso –> Messages. Then look for the Registration Approved message type and click on Registrant. This will take you to the event editor and you’ll be viewing the Registration Approved message type.

Scroll to the date times area which appears further down the page. Then you can add this shortcode to the date times area:

[ICAL_LINK_* link_text=”Add to my Calendar”]

Then save changes by clicking on the save button.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

Lorenzo
