Hello!

I’ve got a site that is currently running EE3. I’m working on developing a new site, which will be on a separate demo URL during the development process, and I’d like the new site to upgrade to EE4, but I need EE3 to continue working on the old site while I develop the new site. I’d love some advice on the best way to accomplish this.

Can I have both EE3 and EE4 active on my account for a time, so that the old site can continue running EE3 until the new site is ready to go?

Is there a way for me to set up and run EE4 on the demo site without affecting the live site, using test events for development purposes, until it’s time for launch, at which point I’d migrate?

Thank you for any help!
Jessica

Hi Jessica,

Yes. The way to make that happen is use the license key on the production site. The other site(s) do not need the license key.

Is there a way for me to set up and run EE4 on the demo site without affecting the live site, using test events for development purposes, until it’s time for launch, at which point I’d migrate?

How that could work is when you install EE4 on the demo site, you could skip migrating the EE3 data. You’ll be able to add test events for development purposes. Then, before you’re ready to migrate you go to Event Espresso > Maintenance > Reset and click the button to delete all data. This will remove all the demo event data and allow for migrating the EE3 data.

After that, the database tables prefixed with _events can be copied to the new site, then after they’re copied over you can activate EE4 and run the migration.
