EE4 – Is it a bug? Updating EE4 seems to change saved settings for add-ons

Hi,

today I discovered (thankfully very early) that when I updated EE4 to the lastest version, my saved settings for the Promotions add-on were changed.

I discovered this when a customer registered and purchased a ticket via the Stripe payment method. Luckly I was just sitting and reading e-mails, as the registration notification entered my mailbox and then a notification from Stripe that a successful payment had been processed.

When I looked at the e-mail from Stripe, I discovered that a promotion the customer had used was applied wrong, so the amount was not as I expected.

Quickly I logged into the system and discovered that the setting “Promotions Affect Taxes” was changed from YES (which was my saved setting) to NO. Luckily it only affected one customer and I was able to refund the wrong amount via Stripe and then send them a new promotion code after changing the setting back to YES. Then I saw it all worked as it is supposed to.

The only thing I can conclude, is that it must have had to do with the update I did this morning.

Is this something you can confirm?

Hi Andreas,

No I actually cannot reproduce this issue on the test sites we have set up. What I did was set up promotions with the same setting (Yes for Promotions affect Taxes). Then I ran the update from EE 4.8.28.p to 4.8.29.p. Then I checked the promotions settings and they’re the same as they were before.

What I can suggest to do, and maybe you can make a note to do this, is before you update to Event Espresso 4.8.30.p when it’s ready, you first check the promotions settings, then run the update, then check the settings after you run the update.
