EE4 – Event times are incorrect

Hello! My event times are all showing incorrectly, no matter what I do. I believe it’s something to do with UTC/the timezone settings, but I cannot figure it out. I read multiple support threads where it looks like other users had the same problems. I see that in EE3, there was a timezone setting in the “Your Organization” plugin settings, but that doesn’t exist in the EE4 settings.

I have WordPress Settings –> General –> Timezone set to “Chicago”, as this is in my CST zone. I do not have any other calendar/event type plugins installed, as I read too that these may be causing a conflict.

If there is some recent release of EE4 that fixes this issue, then I can’t get it because this is a testing site on a development server, and I believe I am not supposed to enter my license info there as I can only do that one time?

Here’s my system information:

WordPress Version:
4.1.1
PHP Version:
5.4.10
MySQL Version:
5.1.70
Event Espresso Version:
4.6.2.p

Hi Matt,

Could you manually update to the latest release (deactivate the current version and remove, then download the latest from your account, upload and activate via WP Plugins)?

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/ee4-changelog/

I see that you mentioned that there are no other event related plugins running. Also, have you tested with only Event Espresso running?

Hi Lorenzo,

Yes, I’ve removed/installed the latest version as you directed above. Issue still persists. Also, the issue still persists with only the EE4 plugin running.

Hi Matt, who is your webhost and what kind of differences are you seeing in the times that are being shown?

Event Espresso stores date times in the database as UTC. They are then adjusted based on the city or region that is selected in WP general settings.

Hi Matt,

Let’s focus on how they are incorrect. Are the start and end times consistently incorrect? If so, by how many hours?

When you input the event’s start and end times, and save, do they display the correct times in the ticket editor?

If you deactivate all other plugins, then go create a new event, do the event times correctly display for that event?

The time offset/incorrectness is 5 hours, I believe. If I set an event time to 6:00 PM (start) and 9:00 PM (end), it changes it to 1:00 PM start, and 4:00 PM end.

– Yes, start/end times are consistently incorrect.

– When I input the event’s start and end times and save, they do NOT display the time correctly in the ticket editor. For example, in the event I described above, I can set it to 6:00 and 9:00 PM, and it will update on save to 1:00 and 4:00 PM in the editor.

– Yes, if I deactivate all other plugins and create a new event, the times save correctly (and display correctly).

Also, my web host is Rackspace (Cloud Sites). With all many WordPress sites I’ve done over the years, I’ve never had a problem with setting the time setting (in WP General settings) to “Chicago” and everything works great.

Hi Matt,

Re:

What this means is one of those plugins is changing the timezone on the fly. You can find out which plugin is doing this by deactivating all the plugins, except EE.

Then you re-activate one plugin and test the ticket editor. If it still works, you activate another plugin and test again until you find the plugin that’s changing the timezone.

Thanks Josh and Lorenzo. I’m simply going to leave my WP General settings on “UTC” for the timezone, as EE is really the only place on this website that needs the timezone functionality anyway. When I set to UTC, everything works/displays correctly. So I’ll just go with that instead of trying to track down which plugin is causing this, and going back to that developer, etc. Thanks for the assist.
