EE4 App – Errors (Failing to scan and check in)

Hi,

I have a fairly urgent problem in that the event that the Barcode Scanner and App need to be functional for is occurring this friday and the new app, while speedy and super cool is throwing an error everytime we try to check in or generate a list.

A few things we’ve noticed is this:
1. The Times for the events on the app are incorrect. While the website shows that the events start at 10:30 am (Toronto Time) the app shows the same event starting at 2pm in the afternoon.(Its worth noting that that isn’t even the UTC offset so I’m not sure what the issue is. The time setting in WordPress IS set to Toronto or New York)

2. The error being thrown if I try to manually check in from the attendees list is: “Error Occurred: The request was a valid request but the server is refusing to respond to it. Unlike a 401 Unauthorized response, authenticating will make no difference. On servers where authentication is required this commonly means that the provided credentials were succesfully authenticated but that the credentials still do not grant the client permission to access the resource”

That error doesn’t make sense because I’m logging on as a super-administrator with all rights and priviledges. I tried muddling with the date settings and deactivating plugins I wasn’t using and wheras before I could at least see the attendees list now I can’t even reach that (this is all in the app)

3. Everything appears to be fine on the website… these errors are only happening in the app. When I scan a barcode it pops up the name but it says that access is denied.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We’re a little desparate as with more than 1200 people coming through the door on friday the system really needs to work.

Cheers,
James

I did a little bit of digging and found your solution here: https://eventespresso.com/topic/ee4-app-error-requested-resource-could-not-be-found/

I modified my .htaccess file and installed the plugin. The good news is that now I can check people in and out on the attendees list. And when I use the barcode scanner it calls up the right ticket. The bad news is that when I used the barcode scanner I got the following message: Registration is denied. The Event Times are still showing up incorrectly for some reason. Wondering if that’s connected.

It turns out that this version of the app shows the event times in UTC 0 time, so that wouldn’t be connected to the registration is denied message you saw.

When you saw the registration is denied message, was it the very first time you scanned the ticket or was it the second or third time?

It was the second or third time… in fairness the ticket I have I had checked in manually before and then I checked it out manually… So its showing as checked out. Is that the problem?

Nailed it! Tried it with a ticket that had never been scanned and it worked!

Now here’s one more question and I promise to leave you alone. Any idea or suggestions for how I can speed it up? (I realize there are about a million things that could be the cause of that). When I did my first lookup it was pretty speedy (before we applied the fixes). Its significanlty slower now, took about 20 seconds to complete the scan and check the person in. When you multiply that by 1000 people and add in the fact that we’ll have multiple terminals it could be terminally slow. Would using a different Cache manager help? Or should I scroll through the entire list of attendees first nd make sure they are all in the phone? (I notice it loads them in sections)

Might try going to a VPS server if you’re on a shared host. The API doesn’t load from a page cache or anything like that.
