I am a current EE3 subscriber and thinking about upgrading to EE4. My question therefore, is to what ease is the migration itself (i.e. how long of a process, etc.) I have looked at the EE3 vs EE4 comparison chart, but, did not know if there were certain features that would be lost or gained that is not detailed in the comparison chart. Thanks so much

Hi Steve, the speed of the migration depends on how much information is currently stored for Event Espresso 3.

Could you tell us about the add-ons that you are currently using for Event Espresso 3?

Are any of the following in use on your site? You can check through the WP Plugins screen in your WP dashboard:

Multiple Events Registration
Recurring Events Manager
Ticketing
JSON API

Hi Steve,

is to what ease is the migration itself (i.e. how long of a process, etc.)

This depends on how many records you have, fewer records takes less time. It also depends on your server resources.

In short its hard to accurately answer how long a migration will take 🙂

I have looked at the EE3 vs EE4 comparison chart, but, did not know if there were certain features that would be lost or gained that is not detailed in the comparison chart.

Event Espresso 4 has more features than EE3 although not all of the same features.

The main feature is Promo codes, EE3 supports promo codes, EE4 currently does not.

Do you use any of the EE3 Add-ons currently? If so which ones?

The best way to test a migrations is to create a dev copy of your site within a subdomain on your server. You can then run the migrations on the same data you have on the live site and on the same server to test how long it takes. If any issues then come up they can be fixed on the dev site away from your visitors.

Do you have a development copy of your site?
