EE3 inserting random links to events all over the place

Wordpress 3.8.1
Woo Framework 5.5.5
Woo Canvas Theme 5.6.3
Event Espresso 3.1.36.4.P
Installed add-ons:
Calendar 2.2.3
Custom Template Display 1.0
MailChimp Integration 1.2
Recurring Events 1.8.p

I just bought and installed Event Espresso two days ago. I set up my first event, and then created a link to that event page from a “Register” button in a text sidebar widget for a regular wordpress page. Today, I noticed I have odd links popping up in various places on that page – in the sidebar widget, on the page itself. When I look at the code, via firebug, I see that the following has been inserted around all of these “pop-up” links:

I deleted the sidebar widget and re-entered it, and the problem code is still there! How do I get rid of this code, and how do I use this plugin without propagating this issue all over the site?

Oops. I didn’t put the proper tag around the code. Here ’tis:

Okay, well that isn’t working.

<pre class=”brush: html; gutter: true; first-line: 1; highlight: []; html-script: false”>

Hi Emily,

There is a pre-launch/maintenance mode page on the site so I’m unable to view the link that you shared.

Could you temporarily test with only Event Espresso running?

WordPress admin –> Plugins. Then disable all plugins and reactivate Event Espresso. Then in a new tab, go to your link and check for the links.

Be sure to restore your plugins after running the test above.

I just deactivated all of the plugins. You can look at the site now. The mystery links are still there. Look at the “interested in learning more” header down towards the bottom of this page (also on the Workshop Syllabus and FAQ):

Hi Emily,

Could you go to that page in your WordPress admin and then switch to text mode. From there could you check to ensure that there aren’t any extra divs or html tags?

Lorenzo, thanks for your help. I did find the extra tag in the html (text mode) version of the page. I’m not sure how it got there – I actually only work in the text view, and I certainly didn’t put it there. In any case, it’s gone now! I reactivated the Woo Sidebar plugin, and my sidebar reappeared without the mystery bits of code (the extra link tag didn’t show up in the sidebar text widget, so I couldn’t figure out how to get rid of it). So now I slowly reactivate plugins and see if the problem reasserts itself?

Hi Emily,

You are on the right track. Please go ahead and restore your site and re-check for the links issue.
