I thought I could display events on my home page like the attached image. But I cannot find a shortcode to do that. can you help?

Where did you find that image?
Event Espresso does not have any output similar to that so it may be a custom widget/template.

We do have an upcoming events widget which lists out the events. You can find that within Dashboard -> Appearance -> Widgets -> Event Espresso Upcoming Events.
However to get exactly the same output as above you will need custom development for your own widget template.

Then you would need a custom template to output whatever you prefer.
For that you will likely need the help of a developer, we have a list of developers familiar with EE here:

If you have a developer familiar with WordPress they should be able to create a template for you.
