Here is what I have found:
when using the short code to display the category on a page return a list, there are two places this error show up. in the listing clicking on category, or adding to the wp menu event categories. the debug error is as follows:
[Unknown column ‘event_start_date’ in ‘order clause’] by doing a sql query I have found that changing ORDER BY event_start_date to ORDER BY DTT_EVT_start return list of events.
