Different Event Types Supported?

I’m the volunteer webmonkey for a non-profit dog training school – Your Dog’s Friend.

We’re at yourdogsfriend.org and currently using a combination of All-In-One-Events Calendar, Wufoo, and Paypal to get students registered. Oh, and Mailchimp to get them on our mailing list. It’s… complicated. ;p

Here are the types of events I need to be able to do:

6-week class (ex: Mondays from 6:30-7:30 pm)
6-week class, non-consecutive (ex: Mondays from 6:30-7:30 pm except for Memorial Day)
Rolling Admission Class (ex: Every Monday from 6:30-7:30 pm, but spots open up sporadically as students complete the course)
Free Single-Day Event
Paid Single-Day Event

It looks like I shouldn’t have a problem setting up registration forms and integrating Paypal and Mailchimp.

Also, I’d like to be able to display a list of upcoming classes, similar to what I have here:

http://yourdogsfriend.org/classes/all-classes-starting-soon/

My client would love to have a layout like this:

http://yourdogsfriend.org/schedule-at-a-glance/ , which isn’t a priority. She refers to this page as her “Geriatric Calendar.”

Is Event Espresso the plugin for me?

Thanks!

Hello,

We appreciate your interest in Event Espresso.

I think that Event Espresso could work for you. I just have one concern. I don’t know if it would work for the 6-week class, non-consecutive (ex: Mondays from 6:30-7:30 pm except for Memorial Day) and the Rolling Admission Class (ex: Every Monday from 6:30-7:30 pm, but spots open up sporadically as students complete the course).

Event Espresso will not skip holidays like that. If you set an event to recur on a certain day and time, it will recur regardless of holidays. You could just have to delete that particular occurrence. As for the Rolling admission class, I’m not sure what you mean here. Can you explain?

Thanks for the reply!

So I *could* set a class for 7 Wednesdays in a row, and then delete one of the dates after the fact and it wouldn’t affect the other instances?

Here’s how our rolling admission works for Puppy Kindergarten:

– Class is a maximum of 6 puppies.

– Each puppy attends for 6 weeks.

– However, not all 6 puppies are on Week 1. So whenever one puppy graduates, they leave an open spot which can be filled the next week by a new puppy.

Thanks!

I wouldn’t delete the event, just let it expire. People won’t be able to register anyway.

Ya, the rolling admissions is difficult, but what I would do is just manage the spaces available for future weeks. People won’t (and shouldn’t) register for past weeks. So the future events should only display how many spots are remaining/available for that upcoming event. It has to be a manual process right now…

Does that make sense?

Gotcha. Hmmm. I will play around with the demo some more.

My worry is that if I make each week of PuppyK a separate event and tell people “Register for 6 consecutive weeks” that we may end up with mass confusion/hysteria.  Remember, these folks have puppies, so they’re not sleeping. 😉

Will play more with the demo this weekend. Could you possibly email me information on what your non-profit discount is? I can get the 501c3 cert from my client.

Ya, we’ve got to build a better system for rolling reservations.

Sent you an email.
