Different currency by venue

Hi, our events are in multiple locations around the world. We would like the event ticket pricing to pick up the currency based on the venue’s country. Where do we specify that? Please assist. Thanks.

Hi,

That is not currently a feature in Event Espresso, sorry about that.

We are hoping to include multiple currencies in a future version of Event Espresso version 4, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Hi Dean, thanks for the info. I hope this feature will be included soon as it is quite common.

Is there any way you can suggest to work around this? Please advise. Thanks.

Hi Karen,

Which gateway are you using?

Currently to do this you’ll need to set the ticket pricing in the sites main currency and allow you gateway to do the exchange when requesting a payment.

Hi Tony,

We are using Paypal. How do we handle the ‘double exchange’ – we have to convert to our local currency to price the tickets, then registrant pays in foreign currency which is then converted to our local currency again inside our Paypal account?

Unfortunately I don’t see a way around that currently.

We have an open discussion for multiple currencies, I’ll add this thread to the discussion and see if any other members of the team can provide any ideas.

Thanks, Tony. Hopefully there’ll be a few ideas for workaround. Am I able to view the discussion thread mentioned or is it just for developers?

Hi Karen,

The discussion is internal so unfortunately we can’t provide access to it. If you have any ideas or thoughts, feel free to share them here and we can include them into our discussion.

Thanks

We are planning to create sub sites for each country/currency to handle this. Would you be able to advise on the pros and cons of installing a multi-site environment or many single individual sites? Obviously multi-site environment would be easier to manage if we would like them to be all similar except for the events plugin. How do we do this? Is it possible?

I’ve also just been looking at the FAQs and read about Event Smart. Would it be possible to create multiple accounts there for the multiple countries/currencies? Then we don’t have to have a website for each country?

Hi Karen,

As has been stated, we’ve discussed having currency and gateway accounts for each event, but there is a significant amount of work that still needs to be done to make that possible.

I think a multisite installation works best for right now. Technically we don’t support multisite with one license key, so if you need assistance along the way there might be added cost (just a mention but you can do as you wish). If you want automatic updates automatically applied then you will have to network activate Event Espresso 4, if you don’t want automatic updates then you can activate them on a per-site basis.

Hi Garth,

I’m not sure if you are saying to use WP multisite or to have individual sites. Do you mean that we can’t have automatic updates if I choose to use individual sub sites?

I think we will have a situation now with 1 main site and 4 sub sites (more later). I’m planning to have individual WP installs for each sub site on subdomains. Therefore, we will need 5 EventEspresso site licences. Does that mean that I should upgrade to the Developer Licence or is there another way to just add support licence for the extra sites?

Also how do we go about adding licence if we do have more sub sites later on. Please advise. Thanks.

Hi Karen,

We don’t support multisite, but the plugin should work on it, though you may need to add some tweaks and fixes to get it running smoothly.

The licence keys are only valid for one site per key, and multisite sub sites are classed as a individual sites. As such if you installed the plugin individually (which you are free to do), then one click updates would not work for those sites as their is no licence for them. You could still update them manually, or purchase more licence keys.

If you want to purchase more licence keys, just send a message to sales@eventespresso.com and they can guide you through the process.

If you have any more questions, please just ask.
