database table exists when it shouldn't

I just purchased Event Espresso and am still setting it up. My host had some problems over the weekend and I was getting the “error establishing a database connection” message when trying to get to my site. They fixed the problem. But now when I logged on to my Admin, I have 26 error messages from Event Espresso from 26 different tables saying the following:
Database table wp_esp_attendee_meta exists when it shouldn’t, and may contain erroneous data. If you have previously restored your database from a backup that didn’t remove the old tables, then we recommend adding define( ‘EE_DROP_BAD_TABLES’, TRUE );
to your wp-config.php file then restore to that backup again. This will clear out the invalid data from wp_esp_attendee_meta. Afterwards you should undo that change from your wp-config.php file.
If you cannot edit wp-config.php, you should remove the data from wp_esp_attendee_meta manually then restore to the backup again.

I am a novice and have no idea what to do. Please help.
Thanks.

Hi Julie,

If you hadn’t gotten too far with setting things up before those errors happened you can go to Event Espresso > Maintenance and reset the Event Espresso database tables from the Reset tab.

Will that erase everything I’ve done so far? I’m afraid this might happen again because I have had to call the host with the same “error connecting to database” message several times recently.

Yes it will erase everything. If you would like someone from Event Espresso staff to check over the site’s data you can go to your account page and click on the Redeem a support token form link. Then you can completely fill out the form there and someone from support staff will check the data on the site.

If you’re continuing to see “error connecting to database” messages, you really should get those resolved with your host before proceeding further with working on the website.

Hi Julie,

We received the form you sent. Can you re-send the form and include the FTP information this time? We need the FTP information in order to investigate your site. If you’re unsure how to get the FTP information, you can ask your host where to find it.

Hi Julie,

We’re ready to see if you can check to see if you’re still seeing those warnings. Can you check and let us know? Thanks!

They have cleared. What problem did you find?
Thanks!.

I had the same problem again with getting the “error establishing database connection” this morning. I called the host to have them reset. Now when I login in the admin, I have 21 error messages like we were getting yesterday. Can you tell me the procedure to fix this without erasing my data?
Thanks.

You can dismiss the messages. Beyond that, I don’t know what they’re doing that’s causing the messages to get triggered. Can you ask them to explain what it is they are actually doing when they reset?

Yes, I will ask them. Thanks.

This error continues to happen. I did not have this problem with the website before I installed the EE4 plugin. It is currently having the problem. Can you help?

No not really. Can you check with your server support to see if they can move your site to an upgraded server in order to avoid the Errors when it tries to connect to the database?

Okay, I had them move my site to a different server. But I am having another problem now. I deactivated EE4 and deleted it because I wanted to see if it was the root of my problem. Then I decided to give it another chance and reinstalled. I noticed that when I try to register now, I get 4 different “personal information” input areas under attendee #1. I looked at my Pages, and see that there are 4 Registration Checkout pages, and 2 Registration Cancelled pages. I’ve tried deleting the extras, but that hasn’t worked. Can you help?

Hi Julie,

I checked and it’s not the extra pages, it’s the extra system questions in there. Can you please send updated FTP credentials via the redeem a support token form? Once we have those we’ll be able to go in to the database and remove the extras.

Thanks. I was able to remove the extra questions and question groups that were in the database, so now the registration form has the correct number of inputs.
