Database Migration for Calendar EE4 Version

I’m confused by the messages generated after installing Calendar EE4 version.

Event Espresso has detected event data from version EE3 (Calendar) that can be migrated (updated) to work with version EE3.0.0 (Calendar).
1. Migrate My EE3 (Calendar) Data to EE3.0.0 (Calendar)
2. Just Start EE4.9.10.p and Delete Existing Data

The caveat that “any existing Event Espresso data (events, ticket, registrations, etc) in your db will be erased!” is confusing to me. Does this mean current upcoming events OR the events from EE3? And, if I choose Option 1 which plugin version would be used?

Hi Kathy,

The caveat that “any existing Event Espresso data (events, ticket, registrations, etc) in your db will be erased!” is confusing to me. Does this mean current upcoming events OR the events from EE3?

It means your current EE4 events/tickets/registration etc.

If you skip a migration EE4 needs to reset the data.

And, if I choose Option 1 which plugin version would be used?

The EE4 version of the plugin will be used once migration is complete.

You should choose Option 1 and migrate your data over.

Whats happening is EE is detecting that you have EE3 Calendar settings in the database and wants to migrate those settings over to the EE4 Calendar. Selecting to migrate will pull the settings from EE3 and apply any relevant calendar settings to EE4.

The problem with how the migration is displayed is due to the current version of the EE4 Calendar which is 3.2.7.p. The migration step displays the version number/series needed for the migration, in this case it is confusing as the version number seems to match EE3.

What it should say, is something along the lines of “Migrate My EE3 (Calendar) Data to the EE4 (Calendar) version 3.0.0+”

I’m sorry for the confusing and have created a ticket to see if we can improve that somewhat.

If you have not created a backup of the database before updating the above I would recommend doing so now, its unlikely the migration will cause any problems but better to be safe 🙂

Here is a plugin I had used in the past to grab a backup – BackUpWordPress although there are many to chose from if you prefer another.
