Customize Reply-To field

Is there not a way to customize the “reply-to” address for registration emails to use the registrant’s email address? This seems like something that should be easy and necessary to include. I’ve found that by setting the “from” email to the registrant’s email, the registration emails don’t consistently send through because the sender’s email doesn’t match the domain. When we receive a registration, we need to be able to reply to the registrant using the reply-to address, but the email should come from no-reply@mydomain.com.

Hi there,

So that I understand what you are doing, you’re setting the FROM address as the Registrant’s email address?

Meaning the email will be sent to say tony@example.com, and show as from tony@example.com (meaning the email come from me) and you want the reply-to address to be your no-reply@doamin.com address?

If so may I ask why you want the email to show as they sent it to themselves? I’m not sure that’s going to work with the majority of mail servers.

No–I’m talking about the email that goes to the Admin with the registrant’s info. So, ideally, here’s how the process would work:

The registrant buys a ticket to the event. The Admin gets an email with the registrant’s information so he knows a person has registered for the event. In order for the Admin to reliably receive an email submitted from the website, the email needs to come from an address of the same domain name, like noreply@domain.com. HOWEVER, so that it’s easy for the Admin to reply directly to the customer from that registration email he received, having a Reply-to field that uses the registrant’s email would make the process simple. As it is now, I have instructed the Admin that when he replies to those emails, he has to change the noreply@domain.com to the registrant’s email listed in the body of the email from the registration form, which isn’t ideal.

I’ve tried setting the “From” field to be the registrant’s email that they entered on the registration form, but that often leads to errors (most notably from AOL and Yahoo’s DMARC policies). I’ve seen countless other form plugins have a place where you can stipulate that the Reply-To field use the email field entered by the person filling out the form.

Hopefully that cleared it up.

Hi,

I can put in a feature request item on our public roadmap for adding a reply to field to the message template editor. Currently EE4 doesn’t have a field for this.

Thank you. I think it would help a lot and, based on my limited knowledge of email headers, it seems like it wouldn’t be too difficult to implement.

Ok, I see. I misunderstood your opening post.

Just to clarify, I wasn’t saying you can’t set the reply-to field to the registrant email. My comment above about it not working was referring to setting ‘from’ to be the registrant email, meaning your site would be sending an email as if they were from the registrant’s address.

Having a different reply-to address than the sender is fine, although it’s actually up to the provider if they allow it, most should as it’s legitimate but they can reject it.

I think it would help a lot and, based on my limited knowledge of email headers, it seems like it wouldn’t be too difficult to implement.

Changing the headers is simple enough and we actually have a filter for it FHEE__EE_Email_messenger___headers, the problem with the filter is getting the data you need into that filter.
