Custom Shortcode testing

Hi,

I asked a question about showing the CHQ # in a registration approved email. (https://eventespresso.com/topic/txn-id-chq-in-messages/) I am slightly confident I can develop a shortcode to do this, however I want to be able to preview a message in the browser to test the output. The preview button on the message page isn’t enough as it doesn’t include payments where I can see how to use that data.

I would like the ability to view the actual email from a real registration to test with real transaction payments.

Cheers

Hi there,

To do that you’ll need to create a regular registration on a test event, assign a custom message template to that event that contains the custom shortcode and then use the resend the message for the registration to test.

So create a test event within Event Espresso -> Events.

At the bottom of the event editor you’ll find a notification section, there you can create and assign a custom message to the event – http://take.ms/B9V3c

Once you have done that if you register onto the event, Approve the registration and that custom message will be sent, then you can use the Approved Registration list – http://take.ms/f1YZQ

From there you can resend the registration message each time you make changes to your custom code.

You can then either view the email within your inbox or use a plugin such as WP Mail Logging to capture and view the message.
