Custom question not displaying for Primary Registrant

We are using EE4 to facilitate conference registrations, with each ‘course’ added as its own unique event. We have implemented the MER add-on for cart features, as well as Attendee Mover, Calendar, Grid & Table Views and WP Users add-ons. We have created a custom question group for use with specific courses. Presumably, when those courses appear in the cart, the custom question should display. Typically, only one person is registering for themselves, so we don’t need to use the ‘Additional Registrant’ features. However, I can’t get the custom question to display for the Primary Registrant. It only works if it’s selected for Additional Registrants. Each event is limited to only one ‘ticket’, so I suspect that the system thinks each event in the cart is for a different person?

I’ve tried several different methods, re-checked and resaved the custom group, created a new custom group and selected it on the event. Any way I try it, the only way to get it to show is under the ‘Additional Registrant’ option. Checking the box on the Primary Registrant metabox doesn’t seem to do anything. 🙁 Only the Personal Info questions are displaying. I’ve tried searching the KB for several different keywords & variations, but haven’t had any luck with existing topics.

Ran all available updates on staging, and manually updated EE core to Version 4.10.13.p via FTP to avoid having to reset the license key (it’d be really great if we could reset that ourselves for ease of use with dev & staging environments). WP core 5.7.2.

Any suggestions? Thank you!

Hi there,

Looks like you’ve already had a good run at troubleshooting this yourself 🙂

When using the Multi Event Registration add-on (MER for short), the primary registrant question groups are taken from the event that is linked to the ‘first’ ticket added to the cart.

So do all of the events currently have the custom question group assigned to the primary registrant?

Can you link me the/one of the events that has the custom group assigned so I can take a look?

I’ll also need the steps you are taking when testing this so I can try and reproduce it. If we need a login to view the events you can use this form to send temp login details:

Each event is limited to only one ‘ticket’, so I suspect that the system thinks each event in the cart is for a different person?

Yes, every ticket that is added is a separate registration, when you add multiple tickets in a single checkout they are joined into a ‘group’ but are still individual registrations for each ticket.

Ran all available updates on staging, and manually updated EE core to Version 4.10.13.p via FTP to avoid having to reset the license key (it’d be really great if we could reset that ourselves for ease of use with dev & staging environments). WP core 5.7.2.

The license key allows for support and updates on a single domain and whilst I understand your point, if the license key could be manually reset by each individual user without review there would basically be no need for the license key 🙂

However, the licensing system should already allow for dev. and staging. subdomains. May I ask what you are using for dev and staging domains currently so I can check into this a little more.
