When creating custom email templates – data is not being inputted correctly into template and not formatting

(ie [EVENT_NAME], [VENUE_ADDRESS], [VENUE_ADDRESS2], [VENUE_CITY], [VENUE_STATE] on new email templates)

Hi Leisha,

Can you please confirm which message template you are using for custom use?
Also, please let us know in which recipient you are facing the issue.

I have had to use a work around to get these sorted today – the main issue appears to be that when creating or editing event – I can not choose a custom message template and edit – i need to be in messages and create there.

The issue with not being able to create custom message templates from within the Event Editor was fixed in version 5.0.11.p, the site is currently running 5.0.11.p but does show the update for .11 as available in Dashboard -> Plugins.

Previously – before the last update – i would chose a custom template such as Workshop Confirmatory – OPC – Sydney and change the details for a very similar event – Workshop Confirmation OPC – Brisbane. now instead of creating a new custom template it just overides the previous template.

Sorry, I don’t follow. If you select a custom template and then edit that template, you are editing the custom template so on save it will save to the template you selected.

EE has never created a new custom template when editing another, you can create new custom templates from previous custom templates but EE has never done that automatically for you (it wouldn’t make sense for us to do that with the majority of use cases as you would end up with thoughts and custom templates just from editing one).

Unless I’m misunderstanding here?

Are you selecting a custom template, on the event then clicking to Create a new custom template to create another based on the selected custom template?

Side note – screenshots in the PDF are tiny, if I try to enlarge them to view the content they just blur.

Can you send the images themselves over to support[at]eventespresso.com so I can take a look, please?

I haven’t the new 5.0.11.p as version 5.0.10.p has caused lots of issues that are still not resolved. It may well be that the new update resolves this issue.

Please update to the latest version, it does indeed fix the issue with creating message templates within the editor (See changelog HERE).

Any bugfixes that come out will not be back ported to older versions (we don’t support older version of the plugin) so staying on a ‘broken’ version does not help and means nothing gets fixed.

‘Patch’ updates, such as those there the last section of the version number changes 5.0.10 -> 5.0.11 are bugfixes, or minor changes to the code.

‘Minor’ version changes, such as 5.0.11 -> 5.1.0 are changes with data migrations or feature/data changes.

‘Major’ changes such as from version 4.X.X to 5.X.X will be significant changes, such as rebuilding the event editor (which is what we did in the version 5).

You’ve reported issues since moving from V4 -> V5 but the issues you’ve reported I can’t reproduce on my test sites when comparing versions so we need to troubleshoot that further which I’m trying to do in your other thread HERE. I need to compare the 2 versions because I’m not aware of any changes to the queries used on the pages you are referencing, so their should be no change in how those pages load between the 2 versions and I need to narrow that down more on your site.

as per previous communication – i have significant hesitancy in doing ANY UPDATES as my experience for the past few updates has been that updates crash my site. I have given access to the staging website for you to look at re other issues – once that has been sorted (its been nearly a month) – i can look at other updates – but at present this is just muddying the waters even more

The issues you had with updates previously were from using a custom ticket selector template which has since been updated.

This isn’t correct, your running into additional bugs that have already been fixed in an update, sitting on the same version is what is mudding the waters here.

As you now have a staging site you could run the updates there first to confirm they work (its a clone of the live site so issues on staging would happen on live).
