I’ve searched the forums, but can’t seem to find the answer to this – simply how do I change the default currency for EE3?

We’ve been using US$ & PayPal but now with 2CO we’re using AED for the UAE, yet despite country designation as UAE we have $ symbol.

I found a great page about country settings as a feature but can not seem to find access!

Other posts tell me that AED is included, but can not seem to find where to choose it!

Many thanks
Angus

Hi,

Changing currency codes in EE3 is not that easy, EE4 handles it in a much more user friendly way, with zero code.

For EE3 you have two options:

1) Modify the organization_config.php file to include AED for UAE. We don’t really recommend this as you will need to update it every time the plugin is updated.

2) Add the following to a site specific plugin. It will change all instances of the currency symbol ($) to AED

function ee_change_dollar_to_aed( $content ) {

  global $org_options;

  $content = str_replace( $org_options['currency_symbol'], 'AED ', $content);

  return $content;

}

add_filter( 'the_content', 'ee_change_dollar_to_aed', 11 );

Thanks, Dean, that seems to have done the trick.

I used a separate file to previous snippets.

This only changes the front end though, correct?

Hi,

Correct, it only changes the front end, it basically just replaces any instance of the $ sign with something else.

Sorry – one small hiccough!

In the Default Registration Confirmation Email there is shortcode
<p>If you have not done so already, please submit your payment in the amount of [cost].</p>
and also in the Payment Confirmation Email [event_price].

This shortcode seems to include the default currency symbol ($ for us) not the snippet one of AED – any bright ideas?

Thanks

Hi, we see that 2Checkout supports the AED currency so we’ll add support for it in a maintenance release of Event Espresso 3:
