Currency change when opting to pay with Paypal

Hi,
I’m very impressed with Even Espresso and how easy it is to use it. Its internationalization is the best feature of all. However, I noticed that when payments are made using Paypal, currency will shift to USD without making the necessary currency exchange. For example, I set the country and currency options to Bahrain (BHD), and lets say the ticket is valued at 10 BHD. When a payment is made through Paypal, the customer will pay 10 USD instead.

Is there any way to fix this?

Hi there,

The currency of the country you have set within Event Espresso -> General Settings -> You organization settings is sent to PayPal when you select select PayPal.

So have you set the correct country here? – http://take.ms/l1eSX

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the response. It seems though that Paypal doesn’t support BHD. I would expect it to convert the rate from BHD to USD to facilitate the payment, but it takes the number as is.

Thanks again.

Hi there Saud,

I found this fees page over on PayPal.com:

https://www.paypal.com/bh/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-xborder-fees-outside

Did PayPal support say that your currency is not supported?

Hi Lorenzo,

Transactions made in/to/from Bahrain are in USD and don’t use the local currency (BHD). Paypal only supports currencies found here
https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/api/currency_codes/#paypal

I guess to accommodate a larger users base Event Espresso may add the functionality of automatically converting rates between other international currencies and those supported b Paypal. Hoever, this might be a little of a headache since it should involve integrating Event Espresso functions to a live currency exchange rate engine, and adding the function of concerting a non-Paypal supported currency to another.

It is not a big deal since I can receive payments in USD, but that would require me to workaround the country settings.

Thanks for your time and Help =)
