Coupon code issue

From my client:

I had two groups of three do this on Friday night. They all put in the birthday code but had only one birthday voucher. They said that when they went to “the computer just took it” and it applied the 12.50 discount to all the people. One of them, actually the first group of three people to walk in the door, started yelling that we don’t honor advertise prices, and if it only works once then why didn’t computer stop them. The second group just said when they went to add attendee it added the discount to each person. I’ve not had a lot of trouble with this but is there any way that coupon codes can be added to one person and not the whole group? I’ve also had issues where people can’t figure out how to add groupon to one member of party, and if they call I tell them to register separately.

Coupon should only apply to the person registering but when you put in the promo code it applies it to the whole party.

Hi Dorian,

Promotion / discount codes can apply in two ways:

– on a per event basis (e.g. only apply to Event ABC)
– globally (e.g. apply to all available events)

If this was a social coupon, then that works a little differently. It will apply a 100% discount against items in the shopping cart.

But how someone have the coupon just discount them and not the entire group?

What kind of coupon was it? Just a regular promo code or a social coupon?

1st issue was standard coupon code:

2nd was: I’ve also had issues where people can’t figure out how to add groupon to one member of party.

Hi Dorian,

EE3 coupon codes will apply to all of the registrations within a group. So if you register 4 users at $25 (Total = 4 x $25), then apply a $10 promo code, EACH attendee will then cost $15 meaning a total cost of $60 (4 x $15)

Currently Promo codes are per ticket, rather than per total order.

The issue is that there is no way to stop the person from using the coupon for the entire group. A coupon should be for just one person but it allows them to use for a group. My customer then loses money because of that.

The coupons are not designed to be used on the total of amount, they designed to be used for all the tickets selected when the coupon code is entered.

So currently there is no way to use a coupon code as a $XX amount off the total amount as the discount is applied per ticket.

No, they are not wanting to use it for an entire amount.

ok….

Example: I am a person who is signing up say 10 other people for a group. I myself have a coupon for myself. I want to only add the coupon for myself and when I add the other people in the group, they pay full price.

The issue is that when a coupon is added, it discounts all tickets in the group. Only one ticket should be discounted.

The issue is that when a coupon is added, it discounts all tickets in the group.

That is how the coupon codes are designed to work.

Example: I am a person who is signing up say 10 other people for a group. I myself have a coupon for myself. I want to only add the coupon for myself and when I add the other people in the group, they pay full price.

To do that the coupon code would need to be able to be assigned to a specific ticket, or applied to the total amount.

For example if you are booking 10 x $10 tickets, you have a coupon for yourself (which would basically equal $10) to do what you require your would need to be able to either discount a single ticket, or apply a discount of $10 to the $100, making it $90 either way.

That is not how the EE coupon codes are currently expected to work.

How do you assigned it to a specific ticket, or apply to the total amount. there is no option for that.

Hi, that option isn’t currently available for the promotions system. Please take another look at Tony’s explanation here:
