Core Data Migration to version 4.1.0 Issues

I previously had event espreso 3 installed on my site and have just installed the latest version.

I am getting a message as folllows
Event Espresso has detected event data from version EE3 that can be migrated (updated) to work with version EE4.

Since you have already been using Event Espresso and have previous event and registration data in your database, you have the option to migrate, or copy over, this existing data into a format that is compatible with EE4.

It appears that your previous Data Migration Task (Core Data Migration to version 4.1.0) is incomplete, and should be resumed

The last data migration task (Core Data Migration to version 4.1.0) ran successfully without errors.
In order to import all of your existing Event Espresso data, the following 6 upgrade tasks need to be performed:

Core Data Migration to version 4.1.0
Core Data Migration to version 4.2.0
Core Data Migration to version 4.3.0
Core Data Migration to version 4.5.0
Core Data Migration to version 4.6.0
Core Data Migration to version 4.7.0

Please can you advise me (step by step) how to perform these upgrade tasks

Many thanks

Hi Rahul,

If you go to Event Espresso -> Maintenance you should see a section for migrating your event data there.

You should see something like this – https://monosnap.com/image/l82OqOYj6xgI2pbVx5zABMajF3wTgM

Click on the migrate data button.

You need to run the migration multiple times (one for each version jump).

Hi Rahul,

I wanted to let you know that we have a migration guide for Event Espresso 4 here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-upgrade-event-espresso/#migrate-to-event-espresso-4

It will provide some insight on changes between Event Espresso 3 and Event Espresso 4.

Dear Lorenzo and tony – thank you

We have now successfully activated the Event Espresso decaf plugin version 4.7.12

My developer is saying that he is not able to activate custom post types in the template. Can you advise how we can do this

Do you offer a paid service yourselves for setting up and configuring event espresso as per my needs>

Thanks
Rahul

Hi Rahul,

You have access to EE4 Regular through your account page here:

https://eventespresso.com/users/rahulk80/

If you click on the blue icon that shows ‘Event Espresso 4 Core Regular v4.8.36.p’ you can download the full version of the plugin there.

Then on your site you need to go to Dashboard -> Plugins.

De-activate and delete Event Espresso decaf (you will not lose your event data) and once deleted you can go to Plugins -> Add New -> Upload Plugin.

On that page select the zip file you just downloaded to install the full version of Event Espresso.

My developer is saying that he is not able to activate custom post types in the template. Can you advise how we can do this

I’m not sure I understand the question, which template?

Event Espresso events are custom post types. Can you provide details on what you are trying to do so we can advise further?

Thank you tony. We are unfortunately unable to deactivate the old EE plugin

When we try inactivating the plugin, we get an error message stating that “chinmayauk.org is unable to handle this request”

We tried the following as well but that didint work

Currently you can de-activate the plugin by renaming the plugin folder within:
/wp-content/plugins/
You’ll see a directory called ‘event-espresso-decaf’, simply rename it to something different (just add ‘-temp’ to the end for example)

I wonder if you can advise how to de-activate the old (Decaf) plugin)

If you rename a plugin directory to something other than what it currently is then view a page within the admin that plugin will be de-activated by WordPress.

So if you rename the plugin than just visit the Dashboard, view Dashboard -> Plugins and you should find it has been de-activated.

If not can you send me temporary login details for both the WP Admin and FTP using this form:

https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

I’ll de-activate Decaff for you.

Hi Rahul,

It looks lie you’re trying to use EE3 shorcodes, which are not compatible with Event Espresso 4. Can you go to Event Espresso > Events > Templates and change the event slug setting to something like upcoming-events? This will help avoid a conflict with your /events/ page.

You can add custom fields to the standard Event Espresso events editor with the Advanced custom fields add-on. A developer can add the field values to your custom templates by following the ACF documentation. The template that Event Espresso 4 uses to display events is the single.php template from your WordPress theme.

My developer is also asking how we can update the short code when it appears to be auto-inserted on our website and lastly where we can download the most up to date version of the calendar plugin from?

Hi Rahul,

Thanks josh, please can you advise where i can download Advanced custom fields add-on

https://www.advancedcustomfields.com

and where I can find a list of EE4 short codes to pass on to my developer?

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/ee4-shortcodes-template-variables/

My developer is also asking how we can update the short code when it appears to be auto-inserted on our website

The answer will be to find the code that’s auto-inserting the shortcodes. They may be in one of the theme’s template files.

and lastly where we can download the most up to date version of the calendar plugin from?

The most up to date version of the Calendar for Event Espresso 4 can be downloaded from your account page after you purchase a support license for the calendar add-on:

Dear Lorenzo

Thanks very much. We are in the process of setting up ACF and defining them

My developer is asking how we can get rid of the EE3 post types that are showing on this page http://www.chinmayauk.org/upcoming-events/new-events/

He says that he did not use any short codes for creating this event and he thinks there is a problem with the plugin (which dosnt seem plausible)

Are you able to advise what we need to do to get ride of the EE3 short codes which are showing at the link above and what file we need to amend

Your helps is much appreciated!

Rahul

Hi Rahul,

You’ll need to look within your theme templates to find and remove those. What you’ve showed us wasn’t something that Event Espresso 3 had, but was likely something a developer added to your theme.

Thanks Josh. Could you advise what php template we would need to edit based on this link http://www.chinmayauk.org/upcoming-events/new-events/ (apologies if I am asking the obvious but we are a charity with very limited resources and our developer is not being very co-operative and keeps telling us there is a probolem with the plugin)

It might be single.php, or index.php. Without seeing a copy of the WordPress theme, that’s only a guess though.
