Conditional Questions and voluntary donations

Hi,
I use EE to register entrants to our charity event.

Query 1
I would like to ask a question at the start that asks how many people are being registered. If it is more than one I’d like the entry price to be different.
So, if the answer is 1 the entry will be £7.50 but if the answer is 2 or more the entry fee for all will be £5.
Is this possible?

Query 2
We would like to add a voluntary donation of £2.50 with a box to untick if they do not want to make the additional donation.
This will apply to all types of entry.
Is this possible?

Thanks
Rob

Hi Rob,

Conditional questions and questions groups aren’t currently available. However, I think using the Multiple Event Registration add-on could help as it allows a shopping cart experience.

Would the pricing be £7.5 for a single registrant and then £5 per person if its a group registration?

Hi Lorenzo,
Thanks for your quick reply.
I’ll have a look at the Multiple Event Reg.

You are correct regarding the pricing. £7.50 for one and £5 per person for more than one.

Though, it would be £10 and £7.50 if they don’t opt out of the voluntary donation.

Hi, the pricing options would be:

7.5 – single registration
5 – group registration

The optional donation could then be handled through the price modifier addon which is available from our pre-release channel:

I’m working on that so I’ll let you know.

With regard to sponsoring the dev of having conditional questions – what would you anticipate to provide the system that asks whether it’s a single or multiple registration and then adjusts the price accordingly?

Please let me know.
Thanks

Rob

On the pricing question for single and group – I could get round it by using a promo code offering a discount of £2.50 but would like this to apply only if they are registering more than one person.
Is this possible?

Hi Rob,

Can I ask if you have considered using EE4 or if there is a reason you can not?

The reason I ask is the EE4 ticket editor/selector can allow this within core. It does not provide ‘discounts’ as such, but allows you to specify minimum quantities purchasable for tickets.

So you single ticket would be a normal ticket, then can purchase any number, group would have a minimum qty of 2, meaning the user would be unable to register for a single group ticket. It would look something like this:

Standard single ticket settings – http://take.ms/8mH5G (notice no minimum restriction)

Group ticket settings – http://take.ms/HKf4i (notice the minimum qty is 2)

On the front end it looks like this for single runners – http://take.ms/gFvBt

Like this for group runners – http://take.ms/PkJYx

Notice group runners can not select 1 ticket because of our restriction above.

EE3 and EE4 are vastly different systems, and may not suit your current requirements (for example promo codes are not currently support in EE4) but I thought it worth mentioning.

Also to note as you are in the UK you fall within the new Consumer Rights Directive law which states it is illegal to include ‘Pre ticked cart items’. This may also apply to the pre-ticked donation field you are currently looking to add.

Take a look HERE for a talk on the Consumer Rights Directive from WordCamp Manchester.

*Disclaimer – I am not a lawyer, I would recommend contacting one for further detailed information as to whether or not this applies.

OK, a follow up with a basic EE$ question followed by one or more less basic questions.
Basic – how do I change the order of questions in EE4? and how can I stop the option of “Use Attendee #1’s information for ALL attendees”?

Not so basic:
I have now tried EE4 and whilst the price modifier is good for adding the “voluntary” donation, I can’t see a way of allowing them to remove it. Furthermore, as there are no promo codes in EE4 I can’t offer that as a way to remove it.
Is there an easy way to give the use the option to remove it?

If not, would it take much development to give me the solution I need?

We have a simple registration for a 1k run at £3 per person no matter how many people register. We would like to add the voluntary donation amount of £2 to this but give an easy way to remove it.

Then we have 5k and 10k registrations. For both we would like to add the donation but make it easy to remove and we’d like to offer the discount for 2 or more.

Can I do this without development?

If not, what would it cost to get this development done and how quickly could it be done?

Another option is for me to use Gravity Forms initially to find out if it’s 1k, 5k or 10k the if it’s single or more than one person and then if they wish to add the donation.
Ideally, the result of the form will then send them to the relevant reg page so they just enter their details and register.
Is it possible with EE3 or EE4 to have a separate URL for each ticket type without having to create each ticket type as an event?
I’d be happy with this option for now.

Hi Rob,

Question ordering is done via the question group, so go to Registration Form, and then the Question Groups tab and create/edit the one you want and on the right hand area is the list of Questions. You can simply drag and drop them to re-order (don’t forget to save!).

Regarding the “Use Attendee #1 Info”, there is no option to disable that but you can hide it with CSS:

#spco-copy-attendee-dv { display:none; }

(add that to your themes style.css file or to the custom CSS section in your theme options or to a plugin such as My Custom CSS.)

Regarding your ticket query, I think the best option might be simply to use multiple tickets, e.g.:

Ticket A “Run” is $3
Ticket B “Run & donate” is $5

Ticket X “5k run single ticket” is $10
Ticket Y “5k run 2 or more people” is $7

Depending on the event those tickets will each be tied to the same datetime which can have a capacity that both tickets draw from.

“Is it possible with EE3 or EE4 to have a separate URL for each ticket type without having to create each ticket type as an event?”

Sorry, no this is not possible.
