Children registrations

Hi guys,

I’ve read various threads on this, but can’t seem to get it right.

What I want is the person registering (parent) to be listed as the ‘contact’ in EE. Meaning, I want the registration in their name and their contact card in their name. I assume that would be considered the ‘primary registrant’. Then I want the children’s names listed as attendees. I also want the children’s names in the confirmation email.

As it stands, I am collecting ‘personal information’ (default), ‘child information’ (group of questions – child’s name), and for additional registrants I collect ‘child information’.

This doesn’t seem to work. Everything seems to be in the names answered in ‘personal information’. It’s confusing because the confirmation email the customer gets doesn’t have the children’s name on it.

1 – Is my questions structure correct?
2 – Is it just the answers in the email templates that need to be fixed?
3 – Can I have the children’s names listed as attendees?

Example: https://lupineart.com/events/journey-into-art/

Appreciate your help… Thanks, Derek

Hi Derek,

When EE does not collect the system questions First Name, Last name (if selected) and Email Address from within the ‘Personal Information’ question group for additional registrants then all of the registrations are assigned to the Primary Registrants contact.

As it stands, I am collecting ‘personal information’ (default), ‘child information’ (group of questions – child’s name), and for additional registrants I collect ‘child information’.

EE has no way to know those ‘child information’ questions are to be used for the registrations details.

So if you want each individual child to show up as a registration in their own name you will need to require the Personal Info question group for additional registrants, however that will also request the Email question for each of those tickets.

With your current setup you can change the email so that it will list the children’s names using some additional shortcodes but the registrations will all show the primary registrants details for the registrations.

I can provide more details if you let me know which setup you’d like to use.

OK, thanks Tony. Got it.

I’ll take the advice on the shortcodes for the email alterations. I had a support ticket on this before, but can not find it, sorry.

Thanks

Thanks Josh.

I’m a little lost on the shortcodes, I admit. I looked at the other thread and link to the doc within it. I don’t understand what the shortcodes would be for the custom questions.

Maybe my questions aren’t structured right to begin with. I have a custom Question Group (“Child Questions’) with first name, last name, age, etc.

I have 3 event types – adult, family, kids. No prob with adult – that is fine as I use Personal Information for all registrants, easy.

Family event – 1 adult (Primary Registrant) and 1+ child. So the adult gets a ticket, and the children get a ticket. I sell them as individual tickets (1 parent + 1 child = 2 tickets minimum – they are the same tickets). Example: https://lupineart.com/events/family-clay-camp/

Kids events – each child gets a ticket, but parents do not.

For both Family and Kids events, the Primary Registrant answers ‘Personal Information’ and ‘Child Information’. Additional registrants answer ‘Child Information’.

Is this how you would recommend structuring? What shortcodes would I use to get the child info into the confirmation email?

I really appreciate your help…

You’ll need to change up the labels you use for questions because in there’s some ambiguity with those labels. For example, if you try the shortcode:
[RECIPIENT_ANSWER_* First Name]
then it will not know if that should be the parent’s first name or the child’s last name. So instead of First Name and First Name, you can change those questions to be Parent First Name and Child First Name. Then the shortcode to display the child’s first name will be:
[RECIPIENT_ANSWER_* Child First Name]
