Category Shortcode Doesn't Output

I have several pages using the category list shortcode such as thi:

[EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY event_category_id=”watercolor-1358636416″]

And they were working fine. I’m not sure why, but all of a sudden, they all return with “no events available” as in here:

http://www.florenceartschool.org/workshop-categories/watercolor-workshops/

…but I’ve checked and the categories are selected within the event, so there should be events showing up. I didn’t notice if it was working prior to the update or not.

Am I missing something obvious?

Hi Kim,

Can you try using the Category ID? (1, 2, 3)

Have you recently updated to a newer version?
You may have outdated template files in the wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates directory. You can test this by clicking the “Rename Templates Directory” button in Event Espresso > Template Settings. This can be undone via FTP is there is a problem.

You can start with fresh templates from the newer version. If you have made modifications to the earlier version’s templates, you can copy the modifications into the newer version’s templates. When you’re finished, you can copy the modified files into /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates.

If you haven’t made any customizations, and you’re simply trying to update to the new version of Event Espresso, you can remove the templates from /wp-content/uploads/espresso/templates using FTP or your host’s control panel file manager.
Please see this article in the documentation for more info:

THanks for your replay, Jonathan.

  1. I tried using the category ID and the resulting page was that it listed every event, regardless of category.
  2. Yes, I just did the update this morning for Event Espresso. My templates directory is empty.

This is happening to all of us, I think. It has something to do with the last update and the changes to the categories NOT taking old events into account. Seth posted some kind of change to the event_list.php file, but I’m unsure what it was. Or the alternative was to open, edit, and save ALL your events. I tried that and it didn’t work.

The latest update really tanked this program. I’m sorely disappointed. I go live tomorrow morning at 10 AM for a huge registration event and I’m having to do a TON of workarounds just to make it function.

What version of Event Espresso are you on? The latest version should correct this issue.

@jfedpgh I am sorry for the troubles you are having. Will you make sure you are on the latest version (3.1.30.3) and report back?

I did the update again and it seems to work fine. Thank you.

@jfedpgh have you made any template file customisations?
