That’s not normal, or expected.
Have you tested the default ticket selector rather than your custom version? Use [ESPRESSO_TICKET_SELECTOR event_id=xxx] on a page and test a registration from that.

I understand that as EE wouldn’t short the Shortcode status as OK if that wasn’t present. However, that checkout page is still cached and needs to be excluded, see:
