Calendar image issue with multiple events

There is an issue on the calendar when you have multiple events with an image on a given day. The images overlap each other and does not push down. If you click on a day then go back to the calendar it shows like it should. It stacks one under another….by default they are on top of one another.

Hi Dorian,

Do you notice how if you go forward one month then back the images re-align properly?

There’s a fix in the latest calendar beta for this that we are testing and you’re welcome to download and install it if you’d like to try it out.

You can get early access to all the pre-releases by opting into the pre-release channel on your account page.

Hi Josh,

I installed the BETA and deactivated the current one. In the back end for the event, the image is there, but on the front end only one image is showing.

When it goes from BETA to the actual release, how will I update it where I will not lose my images? Can this BETA be used as an actual release?

In your calendar, the urls of the images look wrong. One of them is showing an image url of http://masterpiecemixers.com/new/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/parrot-300×238-150×150.jpg. When I change it to: http://masterpiecemixers.com/new/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/parrot-150×150.jpg, I can see the image.
The images are not stored in the plugin, but in the uploads folder, so upgrading to the official release when it comes out should not affect the images.

Is it possible to get your login details in order to look into this?

If so, please send them via https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

NOTE: login details need to be Admin level and FTP details are appreciated.

Update on the current calendar BETA version:

1: If you do not use the “full size” image for the Featured, this happens:

In your calendar, the urls of the images look wrong. One of them is showing an image url of http://masterpiecemixers.com/new/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/parrot-300×238-150×150.jpg. When I change it to: http://masterpiecemixers.com/new/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/parrot-150×150.jpg, I can see the image.

The above happens when you use one of the resized options.

2: When you use the full size, it shows on the calendar.

3: But now in the BETA, the pop-up larger image does not work in the calendar when you hover an event. My client loved that feature.

4: I did notice the stacking was working correctly now. 🙂

Hi Dorian,

Responding to the above and your emails as they are similar.

I tested this by using the thumbnail sizing option on both the current release version and the Beta version and cannot replicate this at all.

I can see exactly what you are saying though as I tested it on your site and yes unless you use the full size it incorrectly generates the url.

Can you please test this by changing themes? I have a gut feeling the issue is how the theme handles featured images, but I didnt want to change themes without your permission.

The pop up larger image was removed, not sure why, but a developer decision.

Elizabeth

The larger image was a very key feature in using this. So now people that have been using is are going to lose it in the next update? I really need that feature .

Elizabeth

August 26, 2013 at 8:10 am

It cant be the template because the current calendar worked as far as uploading images.

I will try changing themes and see.

The pop up will be an issue though. Is there any way to get that back? maybe make it an option for the customer?

Elizabeth

August 26, 2013 at 7:37 pm

I uninstalled both the BETA and live version of the calendar plugin. I downloaded the latest update and installed. Now the calendar does not even show. I even tried with the WordPress Twenty Thirteen theme.

I just now deactivated the latest release and downloaded the 2.1 BETA and installed. I changed to the WordPress Twenty Thirteen theme and still have same issue with. I have reactivated my theme and same issue. So it is not the theme itself.

In order to make the images in the calendar appear consistent the new version uses a cropped image. If you go into WP->Settings->Media you’ll see an option to set the thumbnails to be cropped. The new calendar’s thumbnails need to have this option checked before uploading them.

Also, when you use a custom theme it is possible that the theme alters the way featured images are uploaded, so it may help to upload a featured image while the theme is set to the default theme.

Elizabeth

August 27, 2013 at 12:08 pm

This is a live site and they are always updating their calendar and people are signing up. Changing back and forth the default theme would confuse people.

What about the pop up image in the calendar? When you rolled over it showed a larger image. It is gone in the beta. We really need that option.

Thanks

I’m not convinced it’s the theme that’s the issue, but rather the default media setting not being set to crop the thumbnails.

With the image in the tooltip, I’ll need to check in with the developer to see about getting images displayed within the tooltip. Not sure if this was removed intentionally or not.

Elizabeth

August 28, 2013 at 8:34 am

It wouldn’t make sense to. I would think people have been using it all this time. When you say ‘tooltip’ you are referring to rolling over an event and the image popping up with the date and time? Just clarifying. Can you ask the developer?

Thanks

I can confirm that the tooltip is the box that appears when you roll over the event in the calendar. There is a ticket that has been created for the developer to fix the image issue with the tooltips in the beta version of the calendar.

We’ll have this fixed before it goes from beta to stable.

Just a few minutes ago I posted a workaround that has fixed this issue for me. Hope it helps.
Cheers,

Here is another issue I have. When I deactivate the BETA and try to use the stable version, the stable version no longer works. What is going to happen when the BETA becomes the stable? It will not work. I even removed both and reinstalled the stable one….still nothing. When I reninstall the BETA, it works.

Where did you post the workaround?

ndaniel

here ya go. I did this in the standard release, not the beta.

@Dorian if the current version of the calendar does not work after reverting from the beta, you can go to the bottom of the calendar settings page and check the reset box and save the options. This will clear out the options set by the new calendar and replace them with the default options from the old calendar.

Still not working right: http://masterpiecemixers.com/new/suwanee-calendar/

Elizabeth

September 3, 2013 at 10:48 am

Its not resizing the roll over to fit within the box as it did before and the image overlaps the date boxes. Thanks for your help!!

Elizabeth

September 3, 2013 at 10:50 am

You have to again click on the event and then go back a page for it to work.

Elizabeth

September 3, 2013 at 10:51 am

I downloaded and installed: Events Calendar v2.0.6.2

Hi Dorian,

As we mentioned before the next version of the calendar has the image thumbnail issues worked out. The missing images in the tooltip feature will be resolved before the official release.

Elizabeth

September 4, 2013 at 11:06 am

When will that version be out?

Elizabeth

September 4, 2013 at 11:07 am

Bill,

Which version has the fix you did that has the overlapping fixed?

Josh

The new version will be released after all the bugs are fixed (including the one that you’ve reported).

Elizabeth

September 16, 2013 at 4:36 pm

Any update on the date of the update? My customer cannot launch until that works. Thanks

Have you tried the Calendar Pre-release v2.1.0-BETA in the pre-release section of your account?

Elizabeth

September 16, 2013 at 8:04 pm

I did but the rollover, pop up thumbnails do not work. The developer noted they do not work.

Josh

They are working out a way to make an option to trim the words. In the meantime you can comment out line 571 of the current calendar beta so it reads like this:

//$events[ $cntr ]['description'] = wp_trim_words( $events[ $cntr ]['description'], 50 );

This will restore the images to the tooltips. Please be sure to place a more tag as a break within the content if the event’s description is long.

Elizabeth

September 17, 2013 at 8:56 pm

I will try it out. Will it be easy to transition from the BETA to the stable update?

Dean

September 18, 2013 at 4:36 am

It should be a seamless transition. However, occasionally the calendar settings are reset so you may need to redo those but thats about it.
