Calendar addon Venue filter not working propertly

Hi,
We are having problems with the Calendar Addon. The venue filter does not filter off venues correctly and you always end up in a default venue filter. When you land in the page at first you even don’t get the “Show all” view but rather that default venue.

Hi,

I ran a test with the latest EE4, calendar and Divi theme and found no issues.

Have you tried disabling all other plugins except EE to see if the issue persists?

We tried plugin deactivation but the issue is still there. The filter is not working and always defaults to one specific venue although it shows all possible events in all other venues. If you then select some other venue, it still displays all events but the filter points out the initial default venue, not the one you selected. It’s a real mess. Any clues? Events were uploaded while having the Decaf version and we then activated the full Core version. Could the problem be related? We are quite in a rush since we need to go live ASAP

Also, seems I can’t delete venues but can in fact delete Venue Categories. Why might this be?

Hi,

I’ll run some tests with decaf to see if that is an issue and get back to you.

Venues cannot be deleted if they are attached to an event. Venue categories do not have that feature, so can be deleted regardless.

Hi,

I’ve run a few more tests and I can rule decaf out as being an issue. Are you using the latest version of the calendar (3.2.1)?

Thanks to my colleague Tony, the issue seems to be that most (but weirdly not all) of the items on the dropdown is marked as “selected”, so of course it is defaulting to the last one.

We are not sure why this is occurring. We thought JS but even with JS disabled this still occurs.

Have you modified any of the plugin files?

we are using v 3.2.1 of the calendar, correct. We have made slight modifications in the plugin, but can’t see how our changes may have impacted the calendar filter as most changes had to with the table view addon and not the calendar view. I’ll try to clean up the way events are related to venues to see if that helps, but any clue from your side will be most appreciated

By the way, I understand that about venues not deletable when they are linked to an exhisiting event. But I deleted those events, and still I can’t delete Dummy venues we created during test. This is annoying.

Hi, the calendar loads a couple resources on the page. It looks like pagespeed is running. Could you temporarily turn that off for this page?

Also, you can remove any venues via the wp_posts DB table by searching for espresso_venue and then removing the venue that has the ID that you see in the venues manager within your WP dashboard.

For example, if you had a venue with an ID of 123, then you could search wp_posts for espresso_venue. Then remove the venue with an ID of 123.

Thanks Lorenzo,
Fortunately enough the house-keeping excercise worked. However, the venues that are listed when you click on the “Select a Venue” Filter are not ordered alphabetically, but in what seems to me a pure random ordering. How is the default ordering criteria in EE4 for this item, and how can I make it be Alphabetically ordered?

Hi, the sorting is currently by the venue ID or the order that they were created in.

Hi Lorenzo,
Thanks for your reply. So now, how could we work it out in order to have the venues be displayed in alphabetical order when clicking the venue filter in the calendar? It doesn’t make business sense to have them show up in the order they were created, but rather we need them to be alphabetically ordered.

By the way, Happy New Year!

Happy New Year SolidQ 🙂

The only way to modify the default order_by parameters currently is to modify core functions within the calendar.

We have a feature request ticket for this, I have added this thread to that ticket for some feedback to see if we can either add a filter to allow us to change the order_by parameter or change this to be the new default for the Calendar.
