Automatic promo codes

Hi!

I’m trying to figure out a way to sell serial tickets for a movie theatre; 5 tickets at the time which can be used at the door or online.

To be used at the door I think it works fine; I created an event for this and you get a ticket with 5 qr codes (I believe this is possible to customize…?) and as you buy a ticket at the movie theatre to a specific event you use one of your serial tickets you bought before and pay nothing for the actual ticket. There would be a promotional code to be used in this case which gives 100% discount.

But how would it work when you want to use the serial ticket online? It’s not possible to auto-generate promotional codes as they’d need to be unique? Do you have any suggestion how to make this work?

Hi Kristiina,

You will definitely need custom development, along with the Social Coupons add on (Groupon).

I think it is possible. I’m thinking you could hook into the registration process and generate some Social Coupon codes and add them directly to the database.

After that, probably filter the email to insert them in.

Only issue I can see is that there wouldn’t be a storage of them unless you made a new database table and stored them there, so if you resent the email for example, the codes wouldn’t be on it.

Hi!

Does this Groupon system require some kind of a registration in their system or is it possible to use Social Coupons addon directly in selling tickets?

We are trying to activate ticket online shop for a movie theatre which already uses Event Espresso but still without the possibility to buy tickets. We have run into several problems where everything else seems possible to solve in a way or another, at the moment this serial ticket issue is the last one to solve before our client makes the decision whether we ask your developers to create a new payment gateway for Netaxept whick used to be “Luottokunta” before. Unfortunately that doesn’t work anymore because the system has changed.

How long would it take to develope a new payment gateway?
The ticket store should be open by the end of June.

Thanks again!

Hi,

The Social Coupons addon does not require any thirdparty service, it was merely built to assist with such services.

There might be other ways to do it, but to me it makes sense to leverage Social Coupons as it uses single use 100% discount codes which seems to be ideal for the use case.

Gateway development time usually takes 10 hours, but this is often spread out over a longer period of time. The best thing to do is to submit our custom gateway development form and the devs can take a look and give you a much clearer idea based on their workload.

Hi!

It seems that you have to generate the social coupon codes manually, is automatic code generation something we need custom coding for?

Hi Kirstiina,

Does this Groupon system require some kind of a registration in their system or is it possible to use Social Coupons addon directly in selling tickets?

The way the Social Coupon Add-on works is you input a group of codes which users can then enter when registering onto the event, all of these codes provide 100% discount and can be used only once.

Generating the codes can be done by any means, usually this is done via the Social Coupon site you are using (such as Groupon) although the plugin will accept ANY codes, so you could using something like THIS to create say 200 random codes, then input them into the Database for use with the Social Coupon Add-on.

So if I understand this correctly, you’d like a user to register onto a paid event, in registering onto this event they are given 5 codes in which they can either redeem at the door using the QR code, or online to view 5 shows?

If that’s correct the custom development will be the generating and saving of the 5 codes per registration onto the main paid event. Saving these within the Social Coupon tables means the codes can then be used on any event that has that Add-on active.

HI!

Yes, you did understand correctly what I meant.

How do you upload these random codes into the database? Does it need custom development as well?
