When creating a new event, I need to be able to add an additional field to be able to add a separate partner ID for admin purposes. Is there a simple way to do this or should I use ACF or similar?

If you are familiar with ACF then that will be the easiest method. EE events have the native custom fields enabled on then but ACF can be used to display them in a more user friendly way.
