I am using Event espresso for a community centre. People need to be members to attend an event. We need the ability to give the option to add teh fee on checkout and fill out teh membership questions

Hi there,

Currently you can’t setup Event Espresso to ask questions for specific tickets (for example an ‘Admission’ ticket asking the main questions and a ‘Admission + Membership’ ticket asking the main questions + membership questions).

When you say they need to be members, is that members of the site with a log in?

You could set your events to require users are logged in, then use a membership plugin to create ‘members’ on the site first, once they are then logged in as a member, they can register onto the event.

Would that work?

By members I mean to the the Community centre.. so thats a confusing word in context to wordpress… let me use the word “community-member”

So community-members are not members to the wordpress site and we are not running any wordpress membership except teh default event esspresso stuff.

to book an event on our EE, they need to be a community-member. If they book without one, this is sorted at the reception when they come in, however we want this automated so people booking an event can also add teh membership fee… is this possible?

with forms we can redirect them to gravity for the details…

The simplest way of doing that with EE is to use an additional ticket type on the event, but it does depend on your event setup if that will work.

For example, you could have 2 tickets:

Admission = $10
Admission + Membership = $20

The problem with that setup is if you have multiple ticket options already, you then need a ‘+ Membership’ ticket for each of those and also every attendee will be asked the ‘membership’ questions as you assign questions to events, not tickets.

with forms we can redirect them to gravity for the details…

I’m not sure I follow this, how are you going to do that and also tie the form into the registration so you know which registration goes with which form submission?

Or is the user printing out the forms and bringing them with them to the centre?

Adding an extra ticket with +membership to every ticket to every event is a massive workload. Not workable in reality.

Is there a way create an event that never expires that has the +membership ticket. We are using the Multiple Event Registration plug so this way it can go on the same cart?

You don’t mention the number of events you are creating above so I have no idea on the workload.

We don’t have an ‘ongoing’ event option (meaning an event that does not expired) however you can create an event with the end date (and start date if preferred) set far into the future and use that event for the above.

However you can’t set a specific event to be required in order to allow other registrations, so you can’t require the membership event in order to register onto other events and would be relying on the user’s honesty when booking. Obviously, you can check that at a later date but that will also increase your admin workload.
