Activating 4.7 cause site to go down and Fatal Error

I’ve tried several times to install pre-launch but run into the same problem. The steps and errors are:
1. I deactivate our current version EE (4.2)
2. upload the 4.7 zip through WP Plugins->Add New
3. Activate 4.7.0.beta.003. At this point the site goes down and wpengine Error Log shows this message

[Thu May 28 10:57:47 2015] [error] [client 70.209.48.142] PHP Fatal error: __clone method called on non-object in /nas/wp/www/cluster-1568/flherbconf/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-pr/core/EE_Config.core.php on line 406, referer: http://floridaherbalconference.org/wp-admin/update.php?action=upload-plugin

And the front end page says something about Registration is closed because EE is in maintenance mode, and gives this link to change mode http://floridaherbalconference.org/wp-admin/admin.php?page=espresso_maintenance_settings However the link gives me “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page” which doesn’t feel right as I’m logged in as admin.

I’ve had to restore three times… Help!

Hi Emily,

This is a pre-release and is not recommended for use on a live site:

Do you have a staging or testing site available?

Hi Emily,

You can avoid the fatal error by updating to Event Espresso 4.6, then deactivate, then update to 4.7 pre-release.

Garth (our contact person at EE) just pointed me to the latest Git download which fixed the error. The latest plugin was able to activate without error, then I went through data migration from 4.2 to 4.3, 4.5 and 4.6

Thanks for helping!
