Abandoned, yet paid?

This customer got a receipt from PayPal that their payment was successful, but didn’t receive an email with their tickets. When we logged in to check, it shows the transaction as having been “abandoned” yet when I go deeper into it, it shows a record of the PayPal transaction.

Hi there,

When you checked the registration had the user just recently registered onto the event?

Within your PayPal account do you have auto return enabled?

The above situation can happen if the user pays at PayPal but then does not return to your site afterwards using either auto return or clicking the ‘Return to X site’ link on PayPal. Event Espresso sets up a cron to re-check the registration roughly 1 hour later when the session has expired, it is finds the payment approved the registration shoul automatically be approved which triggers the Reg Approved email and the tickets.

This particular person sent us her email receipt FROM the 18th ON the 27th and I immediately went in to see what was going on. So the cron, if running, is definitely not seeing that the transaction was in fact completed.

Meanwhile, there are approximately 26 newer “abandoned” transaction since hers.

Auto-return was NOT on, but is now… bringing people to the Thank You page which has your shortcode and the recommended text that PayPal suggests to use.

I guess we’ll see if we continue to get abandoned transactions or not.

In the meantime, what do I do to get these not-really-incomplete customers their tickets?

Hello,

If these are in the registrations overview screen and they are set to registration approved, then you can resend tickets through the actions column on the left side of that page. There is a button for resending the tickets which looks like this:

If they are not there, then manually add them (https://eventespresso.com/wiki/manually-add-registrant-wordpress-dashboard/) and then add a payment through the transaction details screen. Then you can follow the earlier steps above.
