In EE3 I was sending reminder emails to all attendees for a specific event and in EE4 I am trying to do the same but can’t find shortcodes for the venue, venue address, start times and start date. I am running anywhere from 2 to 6 events a week and need to automate this process as much as possible. I EE3 it was simple and effective, but in EE4 it is formidible.

Hi Ken,

the venue: [VENUE_TITLE], [VENUE_DESCRIPTION], [VENUE_IMAGE], [VENUE_URL]
venue address: [VENUE_FORMATTED_ADDRESS] See also the Help > Messages Shortcodes tab in the Messages editor for more shortcodes like [VENUE_ADDRESS], [VENUE_CITY], and more
start times: [TIME_START]
start date: [DATE_START]

I was using EE3 to do the same. Now we have to use the Newsletter template function to send reminders, but it’s not possible to add in these short codes.

One way to work around the limited shortcodes in the Newsletter message is with the ticketing add-on. If the ticketing add-on is activated, you can add [RECIPIENT_TICKET_URL] to the Newsletter message, and they can click on the link to view all of the venue and other event info that’s all included in the ticket.

Yeah, but we used custom metas to add in lists of additional dates for each workshop, and to send links to folders of notes (held on google docs) after each event, so it’s now a massive P in the A not to be able to do this.

The EE3 system was absolutely perfect for this. If we hadn’t already committed to changing to EE4 we would have stayed put for this reason as it’s a majority of our workload. We have 7-14 new events per week.

Hi MPURSE,
Thank you for your response. I feel the same way as you. Should have stayed with EE3. EE4 is just so cumbersome let alone trying to figure things out like the introduction of upcoming vs active. At least at your operation these is a “we”. Here it’s just “me”. I am spending more time on this damn website than attending to normal business plus what it’s costing me for a developer to get things back to where things are where I need them. Like putting the registrant’s address into the confirming email so I can send course materials. Now I have to have it coded and until then I have to drill down in EE4 to obtain this information.

Hi Ken,

I’m sorry you don’t like Event Espresso 4. If you have any questions I’ll do what I can to help.

Hi Josh,

Here is my present dilemma: Initially, there was a problem processing emails. It took over three minutes to process a transaction but the emails were not going out although the transaction goes thru. Your people told me to install Mandrill to alleviate the problem. Mandrill only works correctly when EventEspresso>>Messages>>Settings is set to inactive. Now, with this set to inactive it will not resend confirmation details nor will it allow me to send Batch emails. Am I making a mistake in setting thing up? This is only one of the problems I am having with EE4. Actually, EE3 worked much better for me.

Mandrill only works correctly when EventEspresso>>Messages>>Settings is set to inactive.

If you switch off the messages, then the emails are not triggered to be sent which means Mandrill is not being used at all there.

When you say it only works correctly what is happening?

With both the messages system and Mandrill enabled is there an error message or just nothing happening?

Did you follow this guide:

http://blog.mailchimp.com/transactional-email-plugin-for-WordPress/

To setup Mandrill on your site?

Can you link us to a test event we can view this on?

Finally got Mandrill to work correctly after having to hire someone to do it! Now the problem is that I am unable to send Batch Emails with the messages setting set to inactive.

Now the problem is that I am unable to send Batch Emails with the messages setting set to inactive.

If you disable the messages you are tuning the messages system off, so you can’t then send a message from the messages system if it is disabled.

Mandrill does not replace the Messages system, it replaces the function that sends the emaisl (after the message system has send them over to WordPress) and forces the emails to go through Mandrill rather than your host.

You need both Mandrill and the messages system enabled.

Whats happening when you send messages?
