Using Event Espresso for a Dance School, a few questions

Hi guys,

I’m currently using Events Manager Pro for a client dance school at: http://danse-evasion.ch/ (it’s in French only). We are very unhappy with its functionality and are thinking of switching to you. Firstly I have a few questions:

The school offers weekly classes for each dance over say a 10 week period for example, each weekly class would be on the same day each week and at the same time. Is it possible to create such an event so that it shows the 10 weekly sessions and allows users to book for the whole 10 weeks or just a once off class?

Secondly, is it possible to create a ticket which can subscribe the user to two classess? For example, my client wants to be able to offer a special ticket which signs a user up for two different weekly classes (which gives them a cheaper price for it, as they are joining two weekly classes). Would this be possible?

Thirdly, each class is linked to a teacher, and each teacher has their own profile page with a list of their upcoming classes. I have done this currently with Events Manager Pro by using custom post types for teachers and the brilliant Advanced Custom Post Types plugin, seeing as your events are also custom post types, I take it this plugin should be compatible with you guys too (to select a teacher for example)?

Finally, I take it with the custom files module I can completely control the design and layout?

Kind regards,
Aaron

Hi,

Thanks for your interest in Event Espresso.

The school offers weekly classes for each dance over say a 10 week period for example, each weekly class would be on the same day each week and at the same time. Is it possible to create such an event so that it shows the 10 weekly sessions and allows users to book for the whole 10 weeks or just a once off class?

Well, as you want the ability for the individual and mass booking, I would suggest making sure you get the Multiple Event Registration (MER) and Recurring Events Managers (REM) add ons in your licence.

MER allows your visitors to add individual events to a cart system. This will allow them to pick an choose single events. You could then either use a shortcode to add in one click all ten events to the cart (simply add the shortcode to the event description) or, what might be better in some ways is to have an eleventh event that covers all then ten events cost wise.

The problem with adding ten events, is they will need to register for ten events. The problem with adding the eleventh event is that if you have a capacity limit for each event/lesson it wont reduce that capacity.

REM simply allows you to create multiple duplicate events over a period of time quickly, so you don’t have to manually create a bunch of events.

So, yes it can do it, but may need some fine tuning to your specific needs.

Secondly, is it possible to create a ticket which can subscribe the user to two classess? For example, my client wants to be able to offer a special ticket which signs a user up for two different weekly classes (which gives them a cheaper price for it, as they are joining two weekly classes). Would this be possible?

Perhaps ticket is the wrong word here? If I understand you right, you want a way to add two events to the cart and give a discount? Well we have two ways to do that, the default Promotional Codes, which can be used to offer a cart wide discount, or the beta plugin Volume Discounts that canb be set to give a discount if X number of events from a specific category/categories are added to the cart. Combine that with a shortcode to add multiple specific events to cart and I think it will do what you are after.

The Volume Discount add on is available to all licence holders as it is part of the Pre Release system of beta plugins. As such it may not be 100% stable or have a wide range of features.

Our events are not true Custom Post Types we are working on transferring it over in version 4.

We do however have a Speaker/Staff system, in which you can add peoples details, including biography (it can allow text formatting, images, links etc)

These staff can be assigned to events and using a shortcode can be displayed on the event or on a separate page.

Finally, I take it with the custom files module I can completely control the design and layout?

The Custom Files add on is not necessary to modify the template files which control the look of the events, you can copy across the files to a specific place in the uploads directory and modify them there. The Custom Files add on is more to make it easier to add custom shortcodes, functions and includes,
