I just noticed something today. On my non EE website people paying with paypal were directed to a paypal page that allowed payment by paypal and with credit/debit cards ‘through’ paypal without requiring a paypal account. I noticed today that people paying with paypal weren’t given this option. I checked my paypal settings and verified that the ‘optional’ setting was working. Checked back with my ee4 payment page and could see that it was ‘working’. I then cancelled the transaction and checked again…. not working. The ability to pay via paypal without a paypal account was, again, not present. It is totally unclear if this is paypal problem or paypal payments ee4 problem but i can say that on my paypal account the settings are all correct. I need to switch back to paypal from stripe tomorrow so you help would be appreciated. |

I checked one other thing but I think it’s a longshot. I found this on a wordpress wooCommerce/paypal support page https://wordpress.org/support/topic/express-checkout-without-a-paypal-account-not-working
could there be any relationship? |

Hi Omar, I ran a few tests with both a sandbox and a live paypal account, and each one had the option to “Create a PayPal account” which allows users to pay directly with a card. Screenshot http://take.ms/e1NRP As such it must be a PayPal account setting that is causing this. I assume you are using the PayPal Standard payment gateway in EE, is your PayPal account a business account (not Pro, just business)? The option that allows this seems to be: Profile and Settings > My Selling Tools > Website Preferences > PayPal Account Optional = On |
Ugh.. I think I did a poor job explaining. Yes user have option of creating a paypal account however, they should also have option of paying by credit card WITHOUT having to create a paypal account |

On my test sites, this does work – http://take.ms/HXe9W However it is location dependent as mentioned in the post you linked to. EE uses your address set within Event Espresso -> General Settings -> Your Organization. What ‘Country’ and ‘State/Province’ do you currently have set there? **Note it also depends on the location of the user that is paying not just the country settings** |

ah ha… ok. I am out of the country testing. perhaps this is why. I feel a little better now |

If you hit PayPal using an IP from a location that doesn’t support that feature, you will not see that option. I don’t know why this is the case with PayPal (I’m sure there is a valid reason for it), but I have see this come up before. I have just ran a test registration on your site and selected PayPal standard to pay, at the paypal page I have the option to Pay via Debit/Credit card – http://take.ms/lHksL So this is likely just your location ๐ Hope that helps. |

Thanks… panic over |

Your most welcome ๐ Any other problems just let us know. |
