Hi major event starting today and I get this error when I try to check someone in on the app. Happens using manual entry or qr scan. Help !! |
I looked at the other posts in the forum and that didnt help me where to look. I figured the url for the website must somehow be wrong, but I dont know where that is entered to check. |
Hi there, What app are you using? What is the url you were using? You should use: chiroeurope.com |
Using the event espresso app for QR code scanning. Where would I be using the url ? I can log in no problem and see the event and participants. |
When I started to examine your site, that when I visit your home page, the browser displays a Not Secure message. The url is secure, but the security certificate is for another subdomain. So I think you’re going to want to resolve the mixed domains issue because you might run into several issues: https://www.screencast.com/t/lQSFjgUonSt When I view the source code of your website, it was different at different times. I’m not sure what that means, but it’s strange. You could try deleting and re-installing the iOS/Android app. We are still examining your site from the front-end. |
Oh that’s really mixed up…. |
Punny! 😉 |
Am about to get someone to look at all of this now. We werte in the middle of the event so dealing with it early was not possible. Can I still use the app to manually add people to the past event? |
Through the mobile app? No But you can do so through the site admin if that’s what you mean? |
Thank Tony, that is the answer to the question. Found it. Works super easy. Thanks |
Awesome, I’m glad you’ve found it 🙂 |
So we have the SSL sorted, the source code our IT person found not to be variable, but thought it might have something to do with caching. I deleted the app, and with https://URL logged back in, but it still gives an unsupported URL message. |
Hi there, Can you send over temp log in details we can use within the app? I’d like to see if I can reproduce this. If so you can send login details using this form: |
Hiya. I sent those login details via the form the same day but have not heard anything back from you? |
Hello? Still no response from you. I processed a ticket on my account today and realised that no ticket email was sent, nor is it an option to view in the icons for that ticket in my account. I checked that the ticketing plugin is still there and active, but when I go to EE > Messages, there are no email options any more for tickets. The last one was sent just before out last event, and none on ticket sales since then. So the add-on seems to exist, but is not functioning. If this happened before the event it would explain the dysfunction, however I still need advice on how to restore normal functionality. Thanks |
So I deactivated and reactivated the Add-on, and that sorted out the email / ticket issues, but not the unsupported URL. Would appreciate your help. |
My apologies for the delayed reply. I’ve been investigating this but so far have been unable to reproduce it. Can you list the specific steps you are taking on the app to get the above error? I have tried scanning random tickets in lookup mode, listing attendees on events and viewing individual attendees all using iOS app and that’s worked as expected. |
Hiya, |
Hmmm, strange. I’m not getting the same issue. If I open the attendee list and navigate Through to various tickets, clicking on each to get a view of those they all work. However, after backing out of the attendee list and going back into it a couple of times, I got an error along the lines of “The data cannot be read as it is not in the correct format’. On checking those requests the response from the server was just this:
Earlier in this thread above (HERE) when Garth metnioned issues with the site, he asked me to confirm the issues he was running into before replying. I got that same error on ‘normal’ requests to the site and I’m not sure what it is. Can you check with your hosting company as to what the above is? The above is a completely unexpected response from the server and the app wont know what to do with that content, so if you are getting responses like the above it will break functionality. May I ask what name/ticket you are clicking on so I can test the same one you are using? (You can mark your reply private if preferred) —- Also, side note. I’ve not logged out of the app to try and retest this again with logging in but I can’t. The response I’m getting from the server on login is:
Have you recently added/enabled reCaptcha with a plugin somewhere? |

Those warnings your are getting aren’t the issue but I would recommend you set your site NOT to display errors directly on the page but rather to log them (your host/IT should be able to do that for you). I’ve just retested this and used the check-in/out button to check-in/out an attendee on your dummy event without any issues. Without being able to reproduce this I can’t see what the issue is so its really difficult to help troubleshoot. Are you still getting the same error when trying to check people in currently? I tested 5 minutes ago and it worked fine. |

My apologies but to clarify I understand there is an issue on your end but unless I can see it on my end here, I can’t troubleshoot it. I’m doing the same as you are on an iPad and not getting any errors at all. On the app, what exact string are you setting as the website URL when you log in on the app? Do you have an Android device to test with? Just wondering if you get the same error there. |

I’ve been testing this and working through the request/responses sent from and to an iPad to try and narrow this down but so far I’ve not had the error happen to be able to reproduce. What device and iOS version are you using? I’m now wondering if this is something set within the device itself. |
Hiya, iPhone 13 Pro, iOs 16.5 Safari browser. and iPad pro iPadOS 16.5. |
Unfortunately, until I can reproduce this somewhere (be it on your site or one of ours) I’m stuck with what I can help with here. I’m logging onto your site using an iPad Air (iOS 16.5) and not reproducing but I need to be able to see what value is breaking the app and without being able to reproduce and grab the value I have no idea where to look. I’ve created a ticket on the iOS app repo for this to see if there are any more troubleshooting steps we can take currently. |
HI Tony, totally appreciate this, but your comment made me think to try something, so I created a new user, gave it the app capability, and it worked on the same device. So the issue must be somewhere in the capability settings of my account. Good news is, the app works !! Still need to figure out what that is, but I can close off this thread now. |
Oh, nice find! I did not expect this to be a capability issue at all! I would be interested to know which capabilities those accounts have, or even just your original account so I can match it locally and see if I can reproduce it. |
