I used EE3 two years ago for an event and we used mobile app to scan tickets at entrance. I must say it worked great. Now I have setup another site but I am using EE4. I can’t figure out how to use mobile app to scan tickets. I read about JSON plugin that would be required but I see no EE4 version of that plugin. Does that mean I can’t use the mobile app on EE4? Please help me clear that out.

Thanks!

Hi Sylvain,

Sorry for the confusion. The mobile apps only work for EE3. We haven’t developed apps for EE4 yet. We have the Ticketing and Barcode scanning add-ons for EE4: https://eventespresso.com/add-ons/

Also, we do have a way to scan EE4 tickets with a mobile device: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-use-a-mobile-device-to-scan-ee4-tickets/

I did not expect the new version to have less features than the previous one. Can’t go back to EE3 now. We already have over 2000 tickets sold and we are expecting around 4000 people to cross the door within 15 to 30 minutes. We need to use more than one scanner simultaneously. I guess that if we have more than one computer it will work???

Hi,

EE4 scanning is equivilent if not better, than EE3’s version – we just swapped from mobile apps to barcode scanners.

As Jonathan mentioned there is a way to still use mobile apps: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-use-a-mobile-device-to-scan-ee4-tickets/

Multiple computers will certainly allow for multiple users scanning.

We will have 4000 tickets to scan within 30 minutes on event day. I am estimating that 6 scanners will do it but we do not have enough space at entry for 6 computers. I tried the mobile solution that you recommend but I don’t like it as much as I liked the app. Do you think it would work if I export my attendee list to an EE3 version and use mobile app?

Do you think it would work if I export my attendee list to an EE3 version and use mobile app?

Turns out it won’t be as simple as that and would require a fair amount of work to transfer between the two versions.

The EE3 ticket app checks for the event and then checks the attendee is registered onto that specific event. It is not based on simply the registrant info but also the event, the payment status etc.

The EE4 version of ticket scanning uses less resources than the EE3 version, although the apps for use with EE4 are different, they do allow for quicker scanning than EE3.
