Hello, I’ve recently upgraded from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 and migrated to a completely new VPS. Everything is working as it was before except for checkout is giving an error before finalizing the purchase: “This registration step could not be completed. Please refresh the page and try again”
I do have wp-Rocket but I’ve excluded all the pages https://eventespresso.com/wiki/setup-nocache-exclusion-rules-event-espresso/ and even tried to disable it entirely but the error is still there.
I’m not sure where to go from here? Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi, I have been reading the many posts on related issues and tried to do the following:
Disabled all plugins (still the same issue)
Switch to 2015 theme (still the same issue)
Oddly enough, I was unable to select multiple plugins to disable all at once without getting a blank white page. I had to do them one by one.
I’m still stumped =(

Wen that message is shown it usually either caching or a fatal error is being thrown on the Ajax request.
Can you link me to an event I can view this on please?
Do you have WP_DEBUG enabled?
If not add this snippet:

to your wp-config.php file which enables error logging but prevents the errors from being shown on the page.
Then run a registration and view the debug.log file within /wp-content/ and see if any errors are being thrown by EE.

Hi, I added that to my wp-config.php but I don’t see the file debug.log. What am I missing?

I ended up creating debug.log and setting it to 775 but there is still nothing inside it… =(

You can FTP in and create a debug.log file in the wp-content folder, then WordPress will write to that file. An educated guess based on what’s in this thread so far: Your server is running low on memory, and you should be able to bump up the amount of memory available to WordPress by making an edit to your wp-config.php file.
You can increase the amount of memory available for WordPress by following this guide:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHP
If possible, it’d be good to check the PHP.ini file of your new VPS as well, because its memory setting might be lower than what was set in your previous VPS.

I touched the error.log file and it isn’t writing to it but rather I’m seeing the errors (see above) in apache2 error.log.
As for the PHP Memory issue. I set it to 256M from 128M in php.ini and the issue still exists.
Any ideas? Did you see the error logs above?

Hi, It is now fixed. I went back and looked at the logs and it was that curl wasn’t installed.
I installed it with:
apt-get install php7.0-curl
restarted apache2 and all is working!
