We have been getting an unusual amount of spam submissions lately. They are going through and making to the pending payment status by using invoice or pay by check method. Its somewhat clogging up our data with lots of spam registrations. As this is a multi step registration process and these may be humans. I am not sure a captcha is the right solution. Is there any way to trace the IP of who is submitting a registration? Thanks!

If they’ve finalized with the invoice or pay by check method their IP address will be in the transaction entry in Event Espresso > Transactions. You’ll click the “view additional transaction session details” link to find that information.

I am not sure a captcha is the right solution.

Do you have recaptcha enabled at all on the ticket selector and/or registration form? It may well help reduce these registrations as its no longer just a ‘whats this picture’ step.

Hi Tony,

We do not and that may be something that we will enable soon. I actually discovered that the test sends were coming from a development instance of our site that is being worked on by the guys over at Codeable.io. Sorry I did not think of that sooner but they were originating the test sends.

Thank you very much for your information. This is something I will keep bookmarked if/when we need it in the future. Right now I would like to keep it off as not to add any stumbling blocks for our customers when signing up.

Sure, it’s totally up to you although I do recommend activating it.

Recaptcha has moved on a lot since version 1 (the ‘what is this word’ one!) and generally won’t cause issues for the majority of your users.

Great! I assume it’s the V3 one now that is invisible? If so then I agree. That is a good plan. I will look into that. Thanks Tony!

It’s actually v2 you need for EE4, use the invisible option.

V3 is different in that recpatcha then loads everywhere on your site and gives the visitor a ‘score’ based on behaviour, you then use that score to determine what to do on submission.

We haven’t swapped to that version for a few reasons, one of them being that its really easy to run into conflicts with other plugins also wanting to use v3. We may eventually add an option for it, but until its safe for the majority of users to switch over to we’ll continue as is.

Perfect. That makes sense. Another reason why EE is so stable. Thanks for the additional support and information I will try out V2.
