Sporadic Paypal Failures

Hello,

We are experiencing sporadic PayPal failures. Some transactions go through fine, but others will go through the PayPal process, and after clicking the pay link in PayPal, the redirect to our site is just a white screen. When I look at the transaction logs for the transaction items, I see each PayPal attempt, but there is no data in the gateway response.

This is exacerbated by the fact I can’t seem to get ANY debug data out of PHP or WordPress. Please help!

PayPal Standard or PayPal Express?

So I’m assuming you are checking the servers PHP error log but can’t find any details there?

You could add this snippet to your wp-config.php file:

Which enables WP_DEBUG but sets it not to display errors and just log them within /wp-content/debug.log which may help narrow this down some.

Do you have a test event I register onto?

I’ve done all those tricks and WP still won’t log anything. Getting any error logs out of PHP FPM is impossible for me. I can create a test event, just give me details of how you want it set up, please.

I’m not sure what details you need? A single datetime with a single ticket that has a price (not free) will be fine.

Are you using PayPal Standard or PayPal Express?

If using standard I’d highly recommend switching to express:

The reason being that the majority of issues with PayPal are from the PayPal IPN which the Express payment method does not use.

I’ve set up an event at https://www.mn4wda.com/events/test-event/ and we are already using PayPal Express.

Hi there,

It looks like your site is on Event Espresso version 4.9.35.p. I can advise to update to Event Espresso version 4.9.36.p. The version your site has now has a bug that affects PayPal payments. 4.9.36.p includes a fix.
