Original Thread: https://eventespresso.com/topic/fatal-error-function-name-must-be-a-string-in/

I also just received this error two days ago when trying to create a new event. Same exact issue. I removing plugins, but nothing has worked so far. Any fixes?

Hi Grow Socially,

You’ll need to upgrade your server from PHP 5.3.29 (or contact your host and ask them to do the upgrade). The error you’re seeing is a result from using an unsupported version of PHP.

The supported versions of PHP are listed here:

Actually, it appears as though it was the Event Espresso API Plugin. As soon as I deactivated it, the website allowed me to add dates and Event Espresso began working correctly.

What downsides do i have it not using this plugin? Is there a fix to it? Newer version available?

The Event Espresso API was merged into Event Espresso core so there’s no need to use the API plugin.

You should still talk to your host about updating the version of PHP on the server because PHP 5.3 is not supported.
