We recently purchased a new license for EE3. After adding the new license key, we were instructed to update the software, through the WordPress Admin section. This action was taken. After successful completion of the update through the WordPress Admin section, events were not being processed, and we received a message that we needed to update our installation of the ATOS package. The instructions were followed, files were uploaded to the proper place, permissions on the files were set, and everything there has been verified. Now, we have no messages from EE3 in the WordPress Admin, but events added through EE3 are not appearing in the event list. We would like to resolve this issue so we can move forward, and we require information on how to track down what is happening behind the scenes. Please get back to us as soon as possible.

Hi,

Do events and messages work if the ATOS gateway is disabled?

This is a new process for me, so I would like to make sure I am doing ask you ask properly, without losing customer data.

I can see that there is a Payment Settings section in the backend and that there are numerous payment gateways. It appears that Paypal is active, and I am hesitant to deactivate that unless I know it’s not going to erase values.

I can see Atos SIPS Settings on top of the page, and I am presented with the option of ‘Activate Atos SIPS Gateway’.

Do i need to deactivate paypal, or is letting you know that Atos is not activated sufficient to answer your question?

You do not need to de-activate PayPal.

I can see Atos SIPS Settings on top of the page, and I am presented with the option of ‘Activate Atos SIPS Gateway’.

This means the ATOS Gateway is currently de-activated. (which if you are not using it would be correct)

The ATOS Message should only be displayed if you have previously activated the ATOS Gateway, if you are not using it (it appears you are not) then you do not need to anything further with ATOS.

(The gateway was removed from Event Espresso core due to its size, the message is intended for users still using ATOS to update the gateway outside of core so they can continue to use it)

events were not being processed

Within the front end or the admin?

but events added through EE3 are not appearing in the event list.

Can you see the event within the admin?

I am creating an event in the backend. Title is ‘Test Event’ and copy is ‘This is a test event. We are testing our software. If you see this message, please disregard, it should disappear shortly.’ I set Registration Start and Registration End to today’s date. I set event start to today’s date, and one date for a week from now. I set Reg Start Time and Reg End Time to 1pm. Event times are preset so I leave them. I scroll past the start times, and put nothing into the financial values. I add an address. I create a post. I scroll up and click Submit New Event. The I navigate to Event Overview and there is nothing present in the list of events.

No changes to any application settings have been made since updating. Also note that there is a Green checkbox next to the Support License Key.

I went into the system status and pressed Generate report, and it does not appear that anything is listed as malfunctioning there. This was a previously functional installation prior to the requirement for updating the license and installing the ATOS patch (along with the automatic update). I see ‘Espresso Logging Log directory is writable.’ The plugin version is listed as ‘Version 3.1.37.4.P’.

Registration Start and Registration End to today’s date. I set event start to today’s date, and one date for a week from now.

Your setting Registration start and End to today’s day, and both reg times to 1pm?

That would mean your registrations are closed.

Can you set the filters like this – http://take.ms/JQKlj
(Status set to ‘ALL (Active/Inactive)’, All rows to retrieve)

Then click the retrieve button, do you now see your event?

i have been able to turn on full logging and access the log file.

I believe I have tried to create events with several different date and time configurations, I will try that again, and also will see if anything shows in the Log.

I attempted again with a new event, Test Event 2, and I put registration end time of 5p and start of 1p, so there would be a window… Still nothing is appearing in the Event Overview.

Here is the log of that action, minus some chunks of numbers for security:

Did you set up the filter for the event overview like my screen shot and see if the event appears?

Go to Event Espresso -> Event Overview.

Set the filters above the event listing to pull All events regardless of status, shown here – http://take.ms/JQKlj

Then see if the event appears within the regular event listing.

There are a few possible causes to this issue. You can rule these out one by one:
1) A theme conflict. You can rule this out by temporarily switching to the default WordPress theme.
2) A plugin conflict. You can rule this out by temporarily deactivating any other installed WordPress plugins.
It may also help to turn on debug mode. You can set wp_debug to true by editing the wp-config.php file.
You can use an [FTP client][1] and [a text editor][2] to access change this line to the site’s wp-config.php file:
define(‘WP_DEBUG’, true);

I will research the theme and plugin conflict scenarios. Note that as specified this was all functional before updating the license, and no new plugins have been added during the time this became non-functional. I am aware of how to update wp config.

Can you check to see if you have any old plugin code from the previous EE version copied over to /wp-content/uploads/espresso/?

When you activate WP_DEBUG, are there any errors output where the event should be listed?

Inventory Purchasing

July 24, 2015 at 12:14 pm

I see four subfoldrers in uploads/espresso… gateways, languages, logs, and templates… how would i know what contains old plugin code?

I will check the WP_DEBUG soon.

I would like to verify that the record is being or not being stored in the database… What is the database table that I need to look into for events I add that don’t seem to be showing up?

Inventory Purchasing

July 24, 2015 at 12:22 pm

The older events do seem to be displaying properly on the website… With WP_DEBUG on the home page, we do receive some Notice errors, though this may not be related to the issue at hand:

Note that showing things on the website seems fine, and there’s nothing in the backend to indicate there’s a problem, it simply does not seem to be *saving new events*… So once I know what table to look in I will be able to verify for sure.

I created a development copy of our website on the same server under a dev subdomain, turned off ALL of the plugins EXCEPT Event Espresso 3, and again attempted to create a test event, and there was no indication of success there. I searched the database for the event and it is not being stored. The activity is being tracked in the Log file but the record is never being created in the DB…

As you can see, I’ve been attempting to be thorough in terms of providing detailed information on what we are experiencing — the inability to add events with Event Espresso after updating the license… As this was working before we renewed our license, I’m not inclined to believe it is the configuration of the website / wordpress that is causing this. Is there additional detail that I can obtain and provide so that we can isolate the problem?

Inventory Purchasing

July 27, 2015 at 7:19 am

Ok, this is a new one… We moved everything to a dev site so we can try to identify the problem with your component that is keeping us from posting events… ‘Your support license key is only valid for one domain at a time, and our licensing system has detected that you are using your license key on multiple domains. Please log in to your Event Espresso account to manage your Support License Keys, or if you have concerns, please Contact Us.’… We are using this on a subdomain, and there has to be some way that we can test this in order to get a resolution.

We are using this on a subdomain, and there has to be some way that we can test this in order to get a resolution.

A subdomain is another domain, so when installing Event Espresso on multiple sites this will happen, however…

The license key has no effect on Event Espresso’s functionality other than the one click updates and to associate your license key with a domain that we provide support for.

On your development site go to Event Espresso -> General Settings.

Remove the license key and save the settings.

Event Espresso will continue to work as expected there but you will need to manually update Event Espresso rather than one click updates.

When you disabled all plugins on the dev site, did you also switch back to one of the default themes such as twentyfourteen?

As mentioned the license key has no effect on EE’s functionality so updating the key will not prevent the events from updating. When you updated EE did you also update WP to the latest version (I can see your site is running 4.2.3 currently but was this done around the same time as the EE update?)

The logs provided do not show any issue so we need to try and narrow this down some.

Do you have some sort of a test file or code modification that I could put into this plugin or another plugin I could install that would allow me to get some detail as to what may be causing this to fail to post to the database? Also, this is the first time I’ve worked with your product, so I wonder if there is a screenshot I can see of what it is ‘supposed to look like’ when an event is posted successfully… Perhaps it is as simple as there being a little message with a green rectangle indicating success.

Not if no errors are thrown when WP_Debug is enabled and the EE log files show the call to save the event to the database.

Perhaps it is as simple as there being a little message with a green rectangle indicating success.

You should see something like this – http://take.ms/2FF1N

That event was created using these settings – http://take.ms/ZcJrp

Can I log into the development site and create a test event? If so please provide temporary log in details using this form:

I have created an account for you and I will fill out your login form.

We are setting this account as an administrator and will remove it when we’ve confirmed that you are done.

Please let me know if there will be a need to add any plugins or if there’s a need to activate WP_DEBUG or another variable needs modifying.

Thanks.

When you click to create a new event you’ll see multiple Event Times and also Multiple Tickets already assigned to the event.

This isn’t expected and was caused by the security fix WP introduced with 4.2+ when using an older version of Event Espresso with long ticket names.

Those tickets and start times will need to be removed via phpMyAdmin or similar. You’ve mentioned previously that you were looking for events within the database so I assumed you have access to this?

You’ll need to remove any rows that have an event_id of 0 within:

wp_events_start_end table
wp_events_prices
wp_events_category_rel

We had a similar report of this here:

https://eventespresso.com/topic/add-event-displays-57-start-times-how-to-get-rid-of-them/

Once they are remove your event should save as expected.

(Note you are directly manipulating the database, be sure you have a working backup before doing so)

Awesome!

The same issue should not happen as the latest version includes fixes for the security fix.

Just let us know if you have further problems.
