So, ‘usually’ it is fairly straight forward, we have migration scripts which pull in as much of your EE3 data into EE4 as we can… however, 2 important notes.
1. EE4 relies much more on your theme to output the events, so the output can look different depending on how your theme is coded.
2. We’ve seen people do some weird and wonderful things with EE3 which we never expected to be used in the way they were and those can trip up migrations.
So because of that we highly recommend creating a development copy of the site and running the migrations there first to confirm everything works as expected, that way it isn’t a mad dash to ‘fix’ the live site because migrations didn’t work as expected.
Yes, I know, the above sounds scary, but its more of a cover-all. WordPress has so many different themes and so many different plugin combinations that we can’t test against them all. The vast majority of users migrate over with no issues but its better to be safe than sorry.
Does your host have any kind of ‘staging’ functionality? (Who is your host?)
